We dropped the stock 28 gallon diesel tank on our 2012 Ram 2500 HD Cummins soon after I got it home and replaced it with the Titan 54 gallon tank. Have over 700 mile range when towing at average 11.8 mpg (rig scales 19,200 pounds when 2014 31’ Classic is attached). Have seen 19 to 20 mpg when not towing a trailer.

Heartily recommend the under bed tank byTitan as I have all the bed for storage. Many models for Ford, too.

The largest tank you can install is a Titan 50 gallon. In addition you could add transfer tank in the bed. I have both in my 2016 f250. 100 gallon capacity. I can skip over states with high fuel costs.

When the dealer recalibrated the tank. The computer only give a few options for capacity. 50 -30- 20. So they place mine at 50 and the tank has no reserve capacity built in.

Is there a warranty issue if a non-dealer installs?

F250 diesel crewcab short bed 2016. small fuel tank.

Very glad to run across this thread, I to have never been able to fill more then 18-19 gallons of fuel. My range is about 400 miles, and while pulling my tool trailer about 300 miles. So just didn't understand why a big heavy duty Ford Truck only held about 20 gallons of fuel, was I doing something wrong or what the ? (F250 diesel crewcab short bed 2016),

So if you want something done right, you have to do it your self, it least thats what I find most of the time.

Think I'm going to invest in the 50 gallon Titin fuel tank, at $1,400. plus my labor , think it will be worth it in the long run.

Now back to working on the Airstream project.

Thank you very much for showing me the path to follow.

We have a 2016 F250 Diesel and it has the small tank, which for how we use the truck is RIDICULOUS!! We put an aux tank in the bed to hold another 25 gallons and it has been working flawlessly. It's a leased truck so we didn't want to make mods that could not be undone.

It feeds the main tank until empty and then the main gets used. No pumps, no switches and can be moved to the next truck if needed.

Sounds like a very practical solution. Where in the bed does it sit and how do you fill it ?

It’s an aluminum tank that is mounted to a piece of plywood and then strapped at the back of the bed, right at the tailgate. All we do is drop the gate and fill it up. Or sometimes, we leave the tonneau cover undone and dust flip it up and fill.

If you look at this tank here on amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/RDS-Auxiliary.../dp/B002R64CGS

And then scroll down a bit, you can see the adaptor kit that hooks it into the truck system. The tank of this type has a low down drain plug. You put a nipple in here and hook a 3/8ths fuel hose to it. The main tank filler hose is where you install the feed to the main. You get the adaptor that is for the filler hose on the F250 and cut into the fill hose under the truck pretty close to the tank. Once the adaptor is clamped in, you run your line down the floor of the bed, close to the side. At the front of the bed is a plastic plug that you can pop out and feed your hose thru. The hose will have right near the fill hose adaptor and all you do is put it on that nipple and clamp it tight. You are now installed!

I ran the hose from aux tank to main inside of a piece of plastic conduit with some stick on Velcro tabs to hold it in place. This keeps the hose from getting pinched or smashed by stuff in the bed.

When you full up, you fill the main tank first so that the filler hose adaptor is covered with fuel. Cap off the main, and fill the aux tank to the brim. Once you start up and begin to use up the main tank, the aux slowly keeps the main full by draining into it. It won’t over fill because the system is sealed and the aux works kinds like the office water cooler. As long as the pipe is covered it won’t drain into the main. The fuel gauge works fine but it will read full for 200 miles or whatever your towing mileage is. Then as you drain the aux tank, the main will begin to drain and the gauge will begin to read and go lower like normal. When you hit 1/4 tank, find a place to fill up!!

We also carry 5 extra gallons in a jug in case of emergency. We tow quite heavy at 13500 lbs for the work trailer and average 7.4 MPG which is terrible. When I towed the same exact trailer with a slightly heavier load of 14250 I could average 11.5 MPG. The Cummins is so much more efficient. These are long distance tows as well. The last trip with the Dodge was NYC to Lake Tahoe and back. We just did NYC to San Diego and back with the Ford and the mileage 7.4 via the southern route; thru Atlanta on 20 and then 10, so no significant mountains to climThe aux tank is a godsend on the Ford and the miles per tank at 7.5 mpg was very short!

The Titan 50 went on my 2015 F250 short bed today. It does hang a little low. I'll attach pic
In a couple days. Its currently at dealer getting the computer calibration for the range calculation.

You won’t regret going with the Titan. I had a Titan 56 gal. replacement tank installed on my Ram (CCSB) a few years ago and I’m happy with it. It does hang down below the frame rails by an inch or so but I figure it probably lowered the center of gravity a little.

Mine was done by a muffler shop. I had seen them installing one a couple of years back while they were working on my hitch receiver. I had them order it so they would be somewhat responsible for ordering the correct one and we had it shipped directly to the shop. I also ordered a guard from Titan for the tank.

I purchased the tank through SummitRacing.com (the best price I could find) although it was shipped directly from the factory. I had it installed at a local independent garage.

F250 fuel tank capacity

BTW, I also ordered the guard along with the tank. My truck only gets about 10 mpg towing (3.55 gears) so I really felt the factory 34 gallon tank was inadequate. I had no desire to use up bed space by adding an auxiliary fuel tank so the 56 gallon replacement tank was the best option for us.

Thats good to know info, thanks.

I have 3.42 gears.

It is not “necessary” but, would be nice to have the option to drive all day without filling up.
