F250 Fuel Tank - Add or Replace for more Capacity?

Our new AS not due until late Nov; just purchased our TV, a 2016 F250 6.7 4x4 Crew Cab 6'6" bed. Love the truck, hate the thimble sized 26 gal fuel tank. Adding capacity is a no brainer, how to do it is not. We are bicyclists and will have a camper shell with two bikes, generators, etc. and do not want an extra tank in the bed unless there are no other options.
Need input/ideas, specifically:

1. Replace - appears the Titan 50 gal replacement seems to be a good option. Are there other viable options for large size replacements NOT located in the bed?

2. Add - is there a good option to add a large tank and keep the factory 26 gal as well? Any that do not require removing the spare and are not located in the bed?

We have a 99, if I were to spend the money for larger tanks, I'd opt for one of the 50 something gallon replacements for the original 28 gallon, mount the spare on the front bumper and put the spare tank in as well (40 gallons maybe) - so about 90 gallons or more total.

A Google search will reveal many options and price of entry.

But then I look at cost, the work involved, disposal of the old tank, and the fact that I can drive 400+ miles as is before needing to fuel up and think "why bother?"

I believe that there is a replacement tank for the 26 that you can get from the dealer (and independent truck places) that mounts under the truck where the OEM tank does (it replaces the OEM tank.) Not sure if it brings you up to 39 or 50 gallons. In any event, it's not cheap and will make you question the "hassle" of the 26 gallon tank.

We have a Chevy 3500 HD Duramax 8' bed. Installed a Titan Fuel Tank
63 gallon in place of the 38 gallon factory tank, under truck. Its great.

When my 06 Chevy diesel was new it had a 26 Gal tank. Went to Transfer Flow in Chico California while on vacation to the North West area, and had them in stall a 45 gallon replacement tank. It fit directly in the same spot as the factor tank. No changes to the trucks computer, just had to remember that when gauge read full, it was 7 gallon over and when empty it was had 7 gallon left before empty. It has worked flawlessly since 2006. Now instead of worrying about where the next diesel station was, we can enjoy the journey.

May I suggest that you also ponder adjustable rear springs and obtain a Superchips programmer to reprogram the 6.7 for "economy" shift points and fuel injection. It will save the existing programming so if you need to revert to stock for warranty issues you are golden. Just select and reload. Simple commands.

It will set you back about 2K or less for the entire package of the three modifications, but you will enjoy long road trips at 16 to 18 mph without everybody comming toward you giving you the one finger salute for your low beams in their eyes thinking your high beams are on.

Comparing the Transferflow 50 gal replacement tank with the Titan 50 gal repl tank; the Transferflow is $910 and the Titan is $1419.
That is a BIG difference. Don't mind if there is a lot of quality difference; any input on that from users?

What is the weight difference adding a 50 gallon tank compared to the OEM tank? Maybe the Titan it lighter?

Replaced the original tank with a Titan 52 gal tank, ordered the tank online and the dealer installed it for 300.00. We don't worry about finding a diesel station anymore. This was one of the best upgrades to this truck

The Titan, or any replacement tank, is not without drawback. I've read many rants online where folks got these tanks and had water in fuel system leading to costly repairs, HPFP if I recall, and Ford would not repair under warranty. I've heard some suggest it could be an improper installation making this condition arrise, but something for you to investigate at any rate. If your Ford dealer is willing to install the tank, that might relieve any concerns. I know one Ford dealer I asked said they no longer will, but referred me to a garage. Which validated my concerns.

had the transfer flow shipped directly to my Ford dealer, after a conversation, and had them install the tank and get rid of the OEM tank. nice thing about Ford, you simply tell the on-board computer what the capacity is and the gauge reads correctly, nifty. very nice to have the extended capacity although if the crew cab had come with the 36g tank, i would not have bothered. i have no idea what Ford is thinking about, perhaps GVWR, don't know.

I read that there is some that have concerns about retro-fitting their TV with extended range fuel tanks. Let me offer this.

Concerns about water in the fuel in regards to extended range tanks should be filed under " vehicle maintenance".

Anytime you are dealing with diesel fuel, water admiration is part of the package.

Draining the fuel separator ever so often is part of normal operations. This is why there is a warning indicator on dash board, that you never want to see turn on, telling you that water has filled up to a point you must take action.

This is the same thing as "you have X number of restarts" before the DEF gods put you in the ditch.

Every second tank of fuel with an extended range tank my vehicles receive a pint of "diesel" fuel treatment and a short dump of the water seperator and life is good.

My only real issue with the extended range tank is I don't have the range the vehicle does. When I step out I have to stand up and hold on till my legs start working. )

I added a large DeeZee tank in the box. Plumbed it to the filler hose of the factory tank after inserting a $3 Walmart filter in the line -a must. It is great to buy fuel at my option and saves some money when going to high price areas. Yes, costs something to haul it around. I don't always carry extra if we are near home.

We miss the box space and would have definitely gotten an 8" box fi we had known...

I have a 2015 F-350 KR Crew cab with the 6'8" bed and a Leer shell. I also hated the 26 gallon tank. I did not want to sacrifice any space inside the bed so I opted for the 50 gallon Titan replacement tank. Titan uses Military grade materials and they fit like a glove! Much better tank than the original. I also opted for the shield, which protects the bottom from any kind of impact. Now I can tow all day before needing fuel. You can't even tell the tank has been replaced in looking at the truck.

We had the stock 34 gallon tank replaced with Titan 56 gallon tank and shield installed on our Ram. It only hangs about an inch lower than the stock tank (which, if anything has lowered our center of gravity a little).

IMHO these trucks ought to come with larger tanks from the factory.

Although the Ford dealer was origianally reluctant to do it I replaced the tank in our 2012 F250 with the Titan 50 gallon tank. I love it. It makes travelling long distances so much easier as you can pick and choose when to stop because you don't have to stop for fuel as frequently.

Strongly recommending upgrading if you can.
