Supposedly there was a production delay for "material availability". All the 2016 HD payload F150s were delayed production until around Memorial Day from what I am reading. Hopefully, now that they have successfully run production of the 2016, there won't be too much delay on the 2017 if they offer the package again.

5.7L Tundra vs. 3.5L Eco Boost F150 vs 6.7L Diesel F350

F150 Platinum... absolutely a treat to drive with the 3.5L Eco Boost. Beautiful interior and well designed exterior. Amazing power from a start!

I had a 2012 Tundra 5.7L Crew Max, short bed. The Tundra had plenty of towing power, but was 200 pounds less than the sticker on the door for the F150 Platinum for cargo. The weight on the Ford increase was most likely a lighter engine compared to the 5.7L Tundra. Also a reliable power plant and transmission and drive train.

Why go from a Tundra to a new F150 with only a 200 pound increase in cargo capacity. That was the reason why I was looking at Ford trucks. More cargo capacity.

Checked out the F250's with Diesel. Impressive. For around $400 MSRP more, the extra load spring on the F350 King Ranch 6.5 foot bed was my BEST option for my needs pulling our 25 foot International.

The cargo maximum will be exceeded on the F150 quickly. The engine without the trailer... is very impressive. I can imagine it would do a decent job towing a 23 foot or smaller Airstream. But... cargo limitations.

For not much more haggling on the F150 Platinum (high sticker price, as well)... you can get a fully 'endowed' F250 or F350 and excess cargo capability. The King's Ranch F350 Diesel made my 2012 seem bland and dull.

Will I regret the decision? ... I need to get 500+ miles on the F350 before a test run to check my Equalizer hitch/F350 locally, and then into Wyoming this August for the real test. The diesel has a different start to rolling speed before the power of the diesel can be felt. Will get use to that.

The 3.5L Eco Boost... amazing from a rolling start... but reality and common sense is needed when making the choice.

The 6.7 diesel will feel different than the gas but be aware it will turn on the traction control due to tire spinning from zero up to 40mph. Higher if the pavement is wet.Its a animal!

You will love it. I really liked my F150 but also was looking for more payload and a more secure feeling when towing. My F250 accomplished both needs. The 2017 F250 and up will be as smart and toy featured as the current F150's.

Yup, here is a short list of new features on the SuperDuty...
Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support (engages engine breaking on the Power Strokers)
Adaptive steering (helps keep you in a lane when driving > 45MPH)
BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with trailer coverage
Factory-installed customer-placed trailer camera
Multicontour front seats with Active Motion® (I love these on my 150)
PowerScope® power-telescoping and power-folding trailer tow mirrors
Remote tailgate release with power lock
Standard flat load floor on SuperCab and Crew (fold up the rear seats and there is no center hump in the floor)
Tailgate step (nice to have with the higher truck beds)
Trailer Reverse Guidance
Trailer tire pressure monitoring system
Utility lighting system (LED side-mirror spotlights - nice when pulling into a site at night, they auto turn off before 15MPH, but on the 150's there is an easy mod to override, I'd expect the same on the SDs)

The BLIS with the trailer coverage will be great. I have loved my 2015 F150 Platinum but have ordered a 2017 F250 6.7 Platinum that I am anxiously awaiting. The toys in the F150 with the power and capacity of the 250 will be nice. They start production tomorrow. Mine is scheduled for the beginning of Aug.

Interesting Chuck - Do you have any idea what your payload will be like with the Platinum trim and all the options that comes with?
Thanks

I was about to order a 2017 250 super duty about a month ago and decided to wait until the first ones hit the lot to see the actual payloads. I took the time to look closer at the GMC Sierra 2500 and ram 2500 all in highest trim levels.

The Ram and Denali had the best payload at around 2200# on payload sticker.

I also considered the f-150 with HD payload.

For the 2016 f-250 platinum, it had only about 120# more payload than a f150 platinum at around 1700#.

So currently looking at ordering a f350 as even if the 2017 f250 increases its payload, I don't feel it will be enough to cover my needs.
