Lariat with 1810# payload
I have a 2016 Lariat with the smaller box behind a supercrew cab. Payload is 1810 pounds (no typo). I special ordered it to NOT have heavy options, as what was in dealer lot was typically a couple hundred pounds less. For example, I don't have running boards or sun roof. I do have the 36 gallon fuel tank (love it!) and HD tow package, and added spray in bed liner.
We tow a 27' FC, and all the numbers (weighed on a CAT scale) are within Ford's published limits. A bit off topic, but I'm slightly disappointed in that the truck feels a bit unsettled when being passed by larger trucks. We used to have a 3/4 ton that simply ignored what passing trucks might do. Still playing with WD bar settings and weight distribution. Current thinking is that the OEM 18" tires might have some sidewall flex. Nothing dangerous, but I'm noticeably more tired after a few hours of interstate towing.
Other than that, we love the new F150. And we'll fix the unsettled feeling; the truck's clearly worth keeping.

Yup. When my P rated OEM tires wore out I replaced them with LT tires. Made a noticeable difference. I do not air them up all the way though.

Hi, my 2014 F-150 also has 18" wheels and LT tires; I found that setting my rear tires at 50 lbs [max pressure] makes mine handle perfectly.

I had a 2015 F150 Platinum and absolutely loved the truck. As in a previous post I also felt as though I was being pushed around a bit when a truck passed or encountered a gust of wind. Consequently I bit the bullet and went with a 2016 F250 Diesel. All the issues went a way with this truck. Plenty of power and I feel in total control. I wish I could have waited for the 2017 F250's for they will be as smart as the current F150's.

What hitch do you have? There was a huge difference for me when I went to a ProPride. Now when traveling down the highway I have NO sway and semi truck/trailers that pass I get a nominal movement but as if the truck and trailer are one- very solid feel AND a 150.
I do believe that a 250 would provide a more solid feel as it is bigger and heavier. That does not diminish the capacity or capability of a 150. It is just different. From the sound of it, we are going to have more options in the coming year- 150 diesel, revamping of 250, possible 10 speed tranny, etc. I will just say that i am really enjoying my '15 150.
On my previous 150 ('09) just getting new tires on it made a big impact on how it towed. I had lots of sway with the new tires. It is what led me to get a different hitch. There are various factors that effect the "feel" that you might explore before trading and buying. That usually costs more.

For those that went with the 2017 F-250 for the additional payload, what conclusion did you come to as to how much more you would get? Did you just want a bit more, and didn't opt for the F-350?
I've seen 2016 F-250 Platinum owners posting door stickers showing about 2000 in payload, not a big jump. But the F-350 is more like 3500.
Are you betting that the 2017 will just "be more" than the 2016 and whatever that amount is you'll be good with, or were you some how able to get firm payload numbers when ordering?
I need to decide on the 250 or 350 to order for the Pendleton in the coming days and need about 2500lb of payload.

Unfortunately there are no "real" payload numbers yet on the 2017 F250. I just got my VIN and scheduled production date (late July) yesterday. In talking with my dealer, from initial communications they have had it will have a nice increase in payload from the 2016. Reason being is they strengthened the frame and increased axle capacity which they were able to do without increasing overall weight of truck with the savings in body weight from going to aluminum.
As has been noted in threads before, if you go with the diesel, payload won't be as high as with the gas. It's a heavy motor. We are guessing at this point a Platinum will have around 2400 - 2500 lbs payload which works great for me. May actually be more but just don't know. Hopefully these numbers will come out shortly since production is starting first week of July. The F350 will assure you get what you need and more and from what I am told is basically the same ride as F250. Just has an additional spring which comes into play with extra weight. F350 built the way my F250 is would be about $950 more.
The build and price site is up for the 2017's today. Pricing (MSRP) is accurate and there apparently is a way to access the X Plan rate. If not, go to Ford Super Duty Forum and there are some links. Don't go with the payload numbers and towing numbers it lists though. It's showing like 14,000 pounds payload and 31,000 lbs towing. I think that must be for like an F650.

The Ford build site for the 2017 model year is for the F650. Need to wait a bit more for the F250/350 series.

The build site is up for the F250/F350. I have seen several examples run and have run my order to see how it matches up to my particular order sheet. It provides a set of pictures as well of built truck. http://www.shopus.ford.com/build/sup...2017/#/select/

Oh, boy I have some news for you------WAIT for the 2017 F150!!!! I almost want to sell my 2015 with only 5000 miles and get one!
Ford is really changing it up for their mid-life move. Read an article this morning. Off the top, the article confirms that the changes to the regular F150 will include:
2nd generation 3.5 ecoboost (addressing issues of the first)
450 ft lbs of torque - most torque of any engine offered in a half ton (truck) diesel or gas-tow power (current is 420)
redesigned valves
redesigned waste gate electronic
hollow camshaft; roller finger valve train; 2 injectors per cylinder
turbine wheels
10 speed transmission with tow package to utilize a 3.05 final drive as opposed to the 3.55 of the current model or the 3.75 of earlier models - optimized towing mpg.
and, the truck itself is a bit lighter.
when not towing, the start/stop will work on the 3.5 liter EB.
The power of the 3.5 EB is amazing after pulling it with the V8 '09 model I had. I do not experience any overpowering from the trailer but a smooth powerful acceleration and ride. I know that tires and hitch make a huge difference in the towing experience. Stiff tires make for a hard ride but also provide a stable base. When I replaced the '09 truck tires my towing experience turned bad. I had to get a different hitch. Everyone has their opinion I believe that as long as you are within payload and tow limits, the rest is dial-in (tires, psi, hitch, etc). The new one with EVEN MORE power and all those gears to gain mpg is tempting. I have been so weighed down working this last year that I rarely have gone camping and have only 8 days this summer before I go back to work! I say this regarding towing with the '15 as I am still limited in use but the truck is really nice. My '09 was heavy feeling and slow but good. The new truck has been limber and powerful. If you are within payload limits, I would go with the 150, especially if you use it for more than just towing.

Minor detail: Mercedes' 3.0 liter v6 turbo diesel produces 455 ft-lb of torque at 1600 RPM, more than any light duty diesel currently in production (and at the lowest RPM).

Most in any HALF-TON (truck). The issue I struggle with, though many on the forum are fine with it, is the towing and payload limits of many other vehicles used for towing. I was NOT a truck person prior to owning an Airstream but I realize their purpose and superiority in particular duties like towing- heavy duty throughout, long wheel base, etc. If I did not own a trailer, I would not own a truck for lack of purpose though I have grown to like them. The "arrested yuppie" in me finds some comfort in knowing that the Aluminum F150 is Range Rover garnered tech

A little late to this thread as I see the OP has gone with an F250, but we just took delivery a few days ago on our 2016 F150 XLT with the HD Payload package with a payload sticker of 2434 lbs.
We had to wait more than 5 months from our order in January and carefully optioned with an eye towards maximizing payload, but I am happy with the outcome.
There is another owner over on the F150 board with a carefully optioned HD Payload Lariat showing something like 2470 in payload.

That's a great payload! Considering this route as well, how does the truck drive empty? Ride quality is very important and so far I'm leaning towards a 2500 ram as the rear coils offered a superb ride compared to the leaf springs in the Sierra Denali. Waiting on the 2017 F250 but with the same leaf springs I'm not expecting a great ride.
Does the hd payload add stiffer springs?

D44, what cab and bed size did you get with your F150 with the HD payload package?

Ok, here is the build sheet
2016 F 150
4x4
SuperCrew
3.5 eco boost
157 wheelbase (6'6" bed)
3.73 axle
301A package
Max Trailer Tow
HD Payload
Extended Range Tank
Black platform running beds
Trailer Tow Mirrors - manual/power glass
Sync 3
Navigation
Tailgate step
Spray in bed liner (Ford)
Kept the options list really short in an attempt to maximize payload. Was hoping to get over 2386 lbs to future-proof for possible trailer upgrades.
Not the most luxurious truck but it has everything I need. Very nice truck and Sync 3 seems very nice.
As to the ride, I have never had an F150 or any truck other than an Explorer before so I don't have much to compare it to - I think the best way to describe the ride is "firm".
I have not towed with it yet - the Equal-I-zer hitch has to be completely set up all over again due to the height differential and the suspension. Have an appointment locally for a set up on July 15. All of this waiting is killing me . . .
