When I ordered my 2015 I found it necessary to sit down with a savvy salesperson and item by item select the package that would give me MaxTow and MaxPayload. I ended up with the Platinum model and because it is a high end "luxury" model I was a little limited with maxing things out. Still ended up with 2000+lbs payload and I can't recall the tow but certainly adequate for my 30' Cloud.

I looked up the VIN. On the label above. XLT 145" wb 7000 GVWR PKG.
There is a local 2015 XLT to me with a 157" wb with a 7050 GVWR pkg. I would expect the payload to be similar or slightly less since it has the 6' bed.

I test drove 2014 145" wb with a 7700 GVWR pkg with 1765 lb showing on the payload sticker. It wasn't an FX4 like the 2015s mentioned here which adds skid plate weight. 300lbs was not woth replacing my Tundra.

So the 2015s can offer similar payload with less GVWR. Will Ford have 2015 models with more GVWR without having to order the HD payload Pkg? I suspect they won't. It appears to get more payload we will have to special order one with the HD Payload pkg which is almost a $2k.

So for another data point, here is my 2012 XLT SuperCrew 145" wb, 7350 GVWR package.

In terms of payload, the max tow on the 2015 doesn't add much at all. Granted I have an increased payload package (not quite max payload).

This subject matter is always somewhat difficult to comment on due to all of the variances that can be on the particular vehicle you are dealing with. An F150 has multiple ways to be configured so one of the more basic models may easily be able to handle a larger trailer due to it's much larger payload capability. Especially on the 2015. I can only comment on what I have experienced and that is that we pull a 2014 25FC with a 2011 F150 Platinum fully loaded, 3.5 EcoBoost, 3.55, Max Tow. It is within load limits and pulled wonderfully on a 2 month trip from Texas to Canada. None of the mountains presented any problem at all.

I just took delivery of a 2015 F150 Platinum a few weeks ago. I have not towed with it yet, but it drives way better than the 2011 and appears to have a much smoother power band so I am very excited to hookup the trailer in a few weeks. The 2015 is the FX4 off road pkg, 3.5EcoBoost, 3.55 E Lock rear end, max tow, 5.5 bed. No HD payload. All I can tell you, is that comparing my 2011 to this one, with more options which Ford added in 2015, I gained 460 pounds additional payload capability. I am very pleased with that. With all of the tech gadgets that have been added for towing, I can't wait to see how they all work when hooked up. When I get it all loaded for our upcoming trip, I will get the numbers at the CAT scales and let folks know. Again, just depends on what you want as I saw a 2015 XLT equipped (without HD Payload Pkg) that would of increased my payload compared to my 2011 by over 900 pounds.

Hard to believe all that bling is so heavy.

Looks like XLTs will have around 1700-1800lbs payload without HD Payload Pkg.

Going to higher trims reduces that to 1500 for the Platinum.

So if you are really concerned about payload then you will have to special order one with the HD Payload because dealers will never order that package for their lot inventory. They expect buyers to go up to the 3/4t models.

Kelvin, Not to hijack the thread, but that's exactly where I am at. Have my 2012 5.0 v8 towing a 2014 25' FC quite well. Looking at a 2014 30' FC and wondering if I need to step up to a 2012-14 ecoboost with max tow and max payload or a 2015 at least with max tow. Or just go to a 250. I do like the economy of the ecoboost vs the 6.2 or the diesel in the 250.

My 2011 payload was just a little over 1000. Like 1042 if I remember. I will look specifically at the tags tomorrow. Lot's of variables on all of these things.

Went out and looked at tags. The 2015 is 1587. The 2011 is 1127. Knew I gained 460, just didn't remember the numbers right. I had a tag from a 2015 King Ranch on my phone. It's 1601.

The problem with all these fancier trims is the blingy 22 wheels that dealers order with them. The low profile tires don't carry the weight. Just returned from testing a 2015 Lariat short box 3.5 liter ecoboost and 7000 lb GVWR. That was only rated at 1600 lbs. cargo and it had 22" wheels. According to Ford's chart, that should have been rated at 2000 lbs. cargo.

Not to mention passenger tires. I wonder if simply moving to LT tires would change the numbers or if there are other limiting factors.

Interesting. Haven't seen any that had 22's and was not aware Ford even offered them but point well taken. Both mine have 20's and agree that an 18 would carry the weight better. Again, ton of variables. We pack smart and don't carry a ton of other stuff. That which we do is properly spread in the trailer so bed capacity not a huge priority for me, though I do love gaining what I did in the move to the new one, knowing that I can add some stuff if needed.

I have never seen 22" tires. When you build a truck online they are not even offered. Probably the dealer speced out the truck. I would imagine that the younger crowd probably wants the bigger tires and are not concerned with payload or anything else.

I recently moved from a 2011 F150 Ecoboost Platinum (with 3.55 and regular tow) to a 2014 Platinum w/ Max Tow (3.73). My door sticker changed from 1186 lbs to 1525 lbs.

I was torn on picking up the 2014 at a discount vs waiting for the new 2015's. In particular, I was interested to see how the aluminum would change the numbers on a similarly equipped model.
