Truck is going to Frank Brown GMC, Lubbock TX- on Monday for a fuel filter, tranny service, and I am going to tell them about it laying down so they can check to see if it is throwing codes.

loss of power

I rec'd a notice from GM on my 03 duramax. It said there had been problems with power loss due to fuel injection problems. It was not a recall but said the problem would be fixed for free if it happened for up to 7 years or 200,000 miles. So check with your dealer before anyone else touches it due to warranty issues.Good luck

David,

I had a similar situation to yours a couple of years ago (resulted in a long LONG trip home from camping). Changed the fuel filter, ran about 20,000 miles with 3 tanks of B99 scattered throughout (this was summer), changed the filter again, and haven't had any additional problems at all. Make sure when you replace the filter that you don't damage the O-rings and that they seat properly on the filter head. More than dirty fuel I suspected air leaking in somewhere around the filter head. Since I've had two more filter changes since then, and no additional problems.

hello if it winds out in 1st 2nd 3rd but not shift to 4th I would look atthe tranny first. it's not starving for fuel in 1 ,2 or 3 then it must be a tranny problem.just my thought.

I believe he said it was shifting into 4th , that is where he noticed the problem . There is much more torque on the driveshaft in 4th , than the lower gears , that is why a worn clutch will slip in high gears before it slips in lower gears , hense , it needs more fuel in high gear under load than any other time.
