Particulate Filter

You need to understand where and how the Regen takes place. First it is not near the rear of the exhaust. Second it never happens when the truck is below a certain speed or stationary - on purpose. Second it hears up and burns out the soot from the filter - and the exhaust system is what heats it up. So you need to be driving for awhile to allow for the heat buildup. Once it starts it shows you how long it is on and when it is finished. The last thing is that if you do not drive in the City and at slow speeds - it rarely needs a long regen if at all. I have over 75K towing a 31 ft Sovereign and other trailers and had never had an issue towing - only when the truck is going slow and it cold and never allowed to heat up.

Great combo

I pull a 1971 / 30 footer with a 2013 Duramax / Allison. No issues with heat. It pulls with ease.

I'm towing a '98 31 Foot Excella Classic with a GMC 3500 Dually with Duramax.

No problems with heat from the exhaust. Pulls like a dream. Buy it!

Duramax is great!

We’ve been traveling with our 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali Duramax and 2018 30’ Airstream classic for over a year and it’s been wonderful. Could not have a better tow vehicle...makes travel effortless. That vehicle is a beast in any kind of road conditions and the ride is luxurious for a truck.

Duramax

No need to worry about the exhaust temperature of a Duramax. Interestingly, if you look at the tailpipe of the Duramax closely, you will see that what appears to be a tailpipe tip is actually a cooling shroud. The actual exhaust pipe ends 18 inches forward to the shroud tip. The shroud allows cooling air to circulate around the exhaust exit so that the tip doesn't get abnormally hot when the system goes into regen. By the time the exhaust reaches the trailer, it is no hotter than a normal exhaust. Enjoy the power of the GM 2500 trucks!

I have a 2016 Duramax and a 2016 Classic. Over 27,000 miles on the combo so far. No problems.

I pull a 34' with my Duramax, but I had the exhaust tip moved about 15 degrees forward so to not exhaust directly onto my Rock Tamers. I did this at a muffler shop for about $50 just in case the rock guard did get overheated by exhaust. Better to be proactive!! You will love the Duramax for towing.

Just finished a round trip from South Carolina to Michigan's upper peninsula ... pulling a 27' Flying Cloud. No issues ... can hardly tell the rig is behind you. Fans of the truck ... and our AS.

Been towing with our 2008 Duramax for 10 years. Towed our 25 footer and now our 30.
No problems ever. We don’t have Rock Tamers.

I've got a 2017 Duramax with RockTamers and a stainless heat shield, and like others mentioned it works great. It does affect the way the mudflap "sails" in the wind because of the extra weight being added to it. At certain speeds it doesn't provide complete protection, but it still works fine. My Airstream went to Alaska and back last summer and no damage was done.

I do not like how GM has the tail pipe positioned for newer model Duramax trucks, it looks ridiculous. A major eyesore hanging off the back of my midnight edition truck. Gale Banks with Banks power has a very nice option for this situation. If you watch some of his videos you'll see he's got a real engineering mindset. Not someone that puts out bogus aftermarket products for vehicle performance.

With over 100,000 towing my 30ft International i have never had a problem. The funnel on the end of the pipe is designed to cool the exhaust. The duramax is the best in the group. I can out climb the v 10's and cummins with no problem and get better milage

My 2018 GMC Denali Duramax w/ Rocktamers pulled my 28’ Classic over 12,000 mi so far and the only thing I’ve noticed is the exhaust has made the right side flap curve a little. Not enaught to be concerned with though
