Does Anyone Need A Tow?

Hello Streamers!

Next week we'll be driving east to western Arkansas to visit family and then to eastern Tennessee to tow back Murray's truck, a 1954 Ford F100.

It just occurred to us to offer to tow a trailer for someone who might need assistance. We have a 2002 F350 XLT 7.3 Diesel and it will seem really odd for us to drive such a long distance and not see an Airstream in the rear view mirror!

This is not a solicitation, just an offer of assistance.

If you have a need, please let us know and we can see if we can help out.

Happy and safe journeys,

Happy and safe journeys,
Hopefully the F100 will be on a trailer for the ride back. I'm anxious to see it. My neighbor stumbled upon a 1945....yes a '45 Ford pickup in pristeen condition. It hasn't been driven since the 60s. He's is putting in a new gas tank. The old (like new) flathead just purrs but the fuel system got all gummed up from sitt'n. Same with me, I sit and just get gummy.
Neil.

Aww shucks Vinnie!

It's not like we're going to pick up a motorhome, store it and fix it for some nice folks that we've never met before. You, our friend, rock.

Life is good and we're just trying to pay it forward.

Neil,

We'll definitely be towing the '54 behind the '02.

Murray's has had the 1954 since his junior year of high school. (He traded a 1942 Ford truck for it!) He took it completely apart and rebuilt the wooden truck bed. He might have to do it again. It's been sitting lonely at our home in Jonesborough, Tennessee for over ten years. Man and truck will soon be reunited. Tears might be shed.

We'll post images when we get there.

Think good things for us. We'll be leaving soon!

Your friends,

Hi, Towing it on all four? Don't forget to remove the driveshaft even if it's a stick shift. Have a nice trip. I'll be right here waiting for updates and pictures.

Thanks for the tip Bob. We're not sure how we'll tow it back.

We have a brand new tow hitch thingamabob that's rated for 5000 gvw. We've also made reservations with U-Haul for a tow dolly. We're a little apprensive using the former, having no experience towing another vehicle in that manner. Any other tips?

Your friends,

Your friends,
I would rent the u-haul trailer not a tow dolly.. easier on everything. Flat towing works ok if everything is 100%. If you have a problem with that Ol Ford like a blowout or suspension issue it could be ugly at freeway speeds.
On the trailer you just motor down the highway and sing to the radio..

Yes....as I said earlier put the '54 on a trailer. It's a lot less to worry about and much easier to tow.

Vinnie, Neil, richinny,

Thanks for the advice. Flatbed trailer it is!

We can't imagine not being able to back up during our 2,556 mile drive home.

We'll be leaving soon. No one's taken us up on our offer.

We'll have to get used to not seeing a trailer in our rear view mirror.

Your friends,
