Do you have enough truck ?

I was between trucks and being forced to pull a 40' 21,000 fifth wheel with a 99 Dodge 3500 from NE Ohio to West Texas....well...it wasn't pretty....many 40 mph grades.. but we made it.....I knew a big truck was in my future.
A Mack CH 613 12 litre 400 hp/1460 foot lbs of torque...10 speeds.. that was enough truck... ....the big Mack after 10 years was sold and replaced by a Duramax dually......a 3500 rated to pull the big 5 th wheel...Now that I am no longer a full timer and pull a 25 Classic LTD I do not even get a wiggle out of the Airstream ... if I do I can't feel it... to much truck ? well....it could be....but then again.....I smile every time I hook up...... yes I have enough truck...and you ?

Howdy..
Have eye on 34' Excella, 1999... I have 2500HD, Duramax which should be plenty.

The truck recently pulled a 24' SQUARE box trailer, loaded with about 6000 pounds, and headwinds of about 30-40. Truck had no problem, brake set to about +3 was plenty when light and +4 loaded. Pulled at highway speeds all day, no issue other than 8.2MPG.

I'm happy with my F150 for our 34'. 12% grades and high winds aren't an issue. I would rather spend the extra $ camping.

Actually, I have my truck up for sale and plan to downsize. Everything I read confirms that a 150...1500 series will be just fine. The Airstream pulls like a dream..great unit...

Lived in Amarillo for 6 years.....so yes I know wind...

I Don't Need No Stinking Truck!

My BMW X5 4.4i with "Sport Package" and Dinan, 300 hp and 350+ pounds of torque pulls my ASCL 31' just fine!
