Diesel Soot
What are people's experience with diesel soot from the tailpipe leaving black marks on your trailer? Is it a big problem? How is it best dealt with?
I've never towed mine with the Duramax yet, so I'm curious.

I haven't experienced it. I tow a 27FB with a GM 2500 diesel.

Hi, with old and modified Diesels it would be horrible; I saw one where the right rear of the truck and the front of the trailer horribly stained from Diesel soot/oil. If you have a newer Diesel, it shouldn't be a problem.

I have an '08. But the previous owner removed the particulate filter from the exhaust.

It's a 2013 with stock exhaust. I should have mentioned that. I imagine diesels from the 70s might be quite a bit "dirtier" for the trailer...

Have been towing my AS with my 06 Duramax for over 9 years and have never had any diesel soot deposits on the trailer. My 06 is bone stock.

Duel exhaust pipes that exit on each side in the back of the tow vehicle and point outward will help by spreading the amount of soot being concentrated on one side of the travel trailer.

I can,t think of any diesels made and sold since the mid 1990s would throw enough soot to be a problem if the engine is in good health. If you look inside the tail pipe of the newer 2008s and newer,,, there is almost a white ash inside the pipe they burn so clean..
Now on the other hand,, the kids that tune up there diesels with over sized injectors and fog raw smoke out the back to show off would be different story.. But I can,t picture anyone from this group would throw $1000s of dollars to just blow smoke..

A mild mixture of Dawn and water on a rag will remove all soot and grime from the front of the trailer. This from someone who's truck is not stock.

Thanks Tuco. My exhaust was modified by the previous owner. There is black soot inside the tail pipe. No Cat. No DPF. So I get smoke sometimes when I accelerate hard. I may look into moving where the tail pipe exits the back.

As long as it's not a late model Volkswagen TDI you shouldn't have too much soot.

It will only change where you need to clean. Buy a bottle of dawn and spend the rest on camping!

it is not that the newer trucks run so much cleaner but that the particulates are trapped in the dpf
