Thanks! One thing about the good ol'Germans, they adapt... quickly. This will, hopefully keep the US auto parts assemblers on their haunches and motivate to compete... quality and performance wise...

I'm just going to say this....

"Is diesel dead?" was closed yesterday, as it had completely derailed into political arguing and bickering, violating Forums rules .

The same will happen to this one if the same thing happens here.

I'm looking to see if Ford will really come out with their diesel F-150 in 2018, or is the EPA going to derail it. I might be convinced to change my tow vehicle, but not if I can't get a diesel.

Are you expecting to get an answer to that question, in this second thread on the same topic?

I'm hoping to increase my knowledge of the situation by hearing different opinions.

Knowledge and opinions you did not get in the same, lengthy thread, also started by you, which was closed yesterday?

Just sayin'....

Good point. Let's argue about diesel vs gas instead, and is the EPA going to kill diesel or not. I need to know what they are going to do about the next diesel that I want to buy.

Before this one gets shut down too - which it should - consider doing a Google search for this information outside of this forum. You'll get the answers you're looking for and won't be running afoul of the rules here. You don't have to like the rules, but obeying them makes it a better experience for you and everyone else.

Good luck in your search.

Here are the community rules, which are in a different place than the FAQ. Sorry for the earlier misdirection Mike.

Ahhhhhhhhh, there ya go. Thanks Peter! Where do I go or click to read through the "community rules"? Sorry for the ignorance, Ive been a member for quite a while and should have read through those years ago. This is the only forum I've ever joined so severe lack of experience.

The blue link in Post #14 will get you there. From there you can "bounce up" [my term] to the Forums page:

The Community Rules link is at the bottom of the Portal page...

It's the political discussions no-no that was the problem with the other thread.

I just bought a '99 Dodge Cummins 4X4 as a replacement to my 2014 Silverado that had to be a Lemon Law buy back.
I just like driving the Dodge, the Diesel rattling away and knowing this thing can tow a house off of its foundation.

Actually I just realized that they are accessible at the bottom of every page here, inside the blue border, slightly to the right of center.

Let's restrict this to passenger vehicles, not heavy trucks, locomotives, etc, where diesel has an economic advantage. And build on the linked article.

The diesels that may come out in the near future are already in the pipeline. Significant development costs have already been incurred. Manufacturers looking for a market niche can bring back the VW 3.0 TDI, or the Ford 3.0 that is already certified in other vehicles, relatively easily. BMW is also bringing the 40d in the 5 series, because it is already developed. But will manufacturers invest significant $ in new light duty diesel technologies? Unlikely, IMO. The world is changing, and there is too much risk for them to make the investment. In heavier vehicles diesel will continue for years, but in lighter vehicles it is dead for new investment, IMO. The biggest proponent has pulled out. European cities have started banning diesels. Whether one likes it or not, it is happening. That means the component suppliers will invest less as well. It is a downward spiral.

It is like the Wankel rotary engine. It wasnt outlawed. It just became uneconomic as there were costs to meet emissions standards.

It doesn't matter what the EPA says. They are but one agency. Other agencies have spoken very clearly.

This doesn't mean one can't own and drive a light duty diesel for years, probably until roadside testing becomes an issue and a challenge for its continued use.

Decisions, decisions.
Being a life long GM person (45+years), I took the leap to RAM because it is the ONLY 1500 on the market with diesel.
I'll NEVER look back.
I get MORE compliments on my RAM than I do on my AS. Seriously. Guys and WOMEN stop me to compliment the truck.
And it tows like a monster. Just back from a 3500 mile trip, MPG 15.9.
I guess that's what 55 grand will get ya.
