Titan XD

But, at least so far, there are none on the street to test drive much less purchase.

Worst new vehicle introduction ever.

While camping down here in the Destin FL area, I stopped at the local Nissan dealer last week and took a close look at the new XD. I'm impressed with all the interior room, fit and finish look great. I'm 6'4" tall and set the driver seat to fit me and then got into the rear seat directly behind the driver seat and had a ton of leg room. Seats felt comfortable and supportive. I declined a test drive (would have made me want to get a new truck before I want to). Maybe in another year or so, I'll get serious and consider the XD.

Maybe a single new product is the answer to both the 1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton debates, and the diesel vs. gas debates : a 5/8 ton truck, with 500 ft. lbs of torque, and a sealed engine compartment so nobody knows what is in there.

Oh yeah, and it could not show who made it, either.

Calling the Titan XD a "5/8" truck is an interesting marketing ploy. I've only seen in print that the GVWR is "over 8500 lbs", which is in the territory of an OLDER 3/4 ton truck (before HD and super duty).

It is interesting that Ford is considering joining the lighter-weight (less than HD/Super Duty) diesel market. We need to hear what GM is doing. Right now, GM only has the diesel mid-size trucks (a 2.8L I4) - which would haul a big boat nicely, but it isn't my ideal TV. I like the idea of a 1/2 (or even 5/8) full size pickup for a TV. And diesel would make it ideal.

Maybe that's what got them to offer it here, Land Rover was chipping in for federalizing it.
Hi, British built by Ford; What's wrong with that?

3L Diesel - VW can probably price some cheap ones....

Joke aside, we are pulling with a 3L VW engine and pulled with a F-150 gasser as well. Mucho more torque and uphill power in the Diesel engine. Of course, the tuning of the Porsche mods is a little out of worldly... But Ford could easily do this, would be verrrrry attractive...

Yeah, you remove the bonnet to work on the engine! Don't start with electrical system jokes now Bruce.

I wouldn't take the high apparent noise level from this internet video of an engineering mule to be representative of how the truck would sound if they brought it to production. A) we have no way of knowing the performance characteristics of the mic and software used to capture this... it might seem much louder on the video than it did to the person in the car. b) we have no reason to believe this mule has a production level of sound insulation around the engine compartment c) we have no reason to believe the exhaust is a good representation of the performance of a factory exhaust.

There are already 4 available engines for the F150. I don't see a premium-priced diesel offering bumping off the bargain hunter's NA V6, and I don't think pickup aficionados are ready to give up on the V8. I wonder if it'll supplant one of the Ecoboosts or if there'll be 5 engines available if they offer a 3.0 litre Powerstroke.

Holy guacamole, Top. $60k to $70k for a diesel F150? Did I read that right? You can buy a lot of MoGas for that price.

Edit: that's not for the diesel, that's for the "High-End" F150. That's still a whole lotta money for a half-ton truck. Ford sold 150,000 of these trucks last year priced ABOVE $50,000. Man, that's bunch of dough.
