I think pwrstrk had the same problem on their past trip.

Our just completed a 2500 mile trip with our Ford E-350 Power Stroke got 11.77 MPG using the ac half of the time. We were at the max combined vehicle towing weight. There was not a hiccup or glitch during the entire trip with the Ford. With 40,000 miles on it the diesel mileage has improved somewhat. I use Amsoil heavy duty diesel marine 15-40 oil in the engine with the Amsoil bypass filter. Tranny has Mobile 1 ATF and the differential has Amsoil synthetic gear lube. I replaced the OEM air filters with the foam oiled type. I thought I needed a 4.10 differential but the 3.55 appears to work fine. Towing the steepest grades it slows to about 37 MPH and the cooling fan kicked in only twice just before the top of the grades. When that fan kicks in you know it because it sounds like there is a jet flying right above you. It must take a lot of horse power to turn that fan, but then it pulls a tremendous amount of air through those three radiators.
