I too use whatever part of the roadway I have available to me. Having ridden motorcycles for over half million miles in my life, we have a saying in our world: anything that is paved is fair territory. Another way of saying it, is, until you depart the hard surfaces, you've not yet crashed.
I still suspect ( just a guess here ) that a lot of what we hear and read about, when folks are discussing the movements of their tow vehicle and trailer is a result of reaction, and/or over-reaction to normal movements of the whole combination. "Don't fight it....let it move about a little bit"......and we often see it all self corrects ( within reason of course ). Experience make the difference.
Guys like slowmover that approach 100K or more miles a year, for perhaps decades, have effectively "so much" practical experience, that most of this stuff comes natural, second nature.
Those that only tow a few times a year likely have to think about it a little more. Which is likely a big contributor to why these rentals get damaged so much. Lack of practical experience.
