My 78 Argosy has a picture on the cover of the manual of a station wagon towing the trailer.

Brian, you have two beautiful rigs to tow with. For me it would be a tough choice which one to take.

Oh man, even my neighbor just got a JD with a front end loader on it to play in his yard. I watched through the back hedge today as he made all kinds of holes and then filled them back up again as he learns how to use it. I was going to volunteer to show him a trick or two but since I don't know any I figured I'd best just watch from a distance. I must admit, a wise choice on my part to stand back as he was getting pretty scary with it. And me without a tractor. Over dinner tonight I brought up the fact that a tractor would come in pretty handy and was resoundingly reminded that since I can't even drive a car right now adding a tractor to the "sitting in the shop because I can't drive" list would only make my life more depressing. I hate it when the boss gets all practical on me.

We have two older tow vehicles a 1978 F-250 4x4 with a 460 that will not pass a gas station. A 1965 Burb with a 350 turbo 350 and gearvneders over drive. We get 11 mpg towing and 14 just driving around this vehicle is my daily driver.Click image for larger version

Actually, Ralph, I've got it pretty good as you know. As soon as I get tuned up I'll be able to play with the cars again, head out with the Airstream and my sweet baboo'ette, and who knows, maybe pick up a vintage tractor to toy with when we get back. It won't be long now, 2010 most likely. Then we are hoping to do a tour across Canada and through the US with the '57 wagon and the Flying Cloud. No time limit, just wander and see what there is to see. I really enjoy the look of the old JD and Case tractors - not that I've owned one, but spent my youth around people who did and love the look, the sound, and all those parts....

It is all in the timing. The next time I raise the suggestion I just need to make sure I have a visible project that needs doing . I think I can create one of those pretty quickly.

Barry

Dave and Debbie,

I haven't seen the Ford previously but the Burb we have seen a couple of times and it is an excellent match to the 'Stream. I suspect if you and Lee tow anywhere together you make quite a sight for the civilians out there. Very reminiscent of what one would have seen in the mid-sixties.

I hope to hear more about this the next time I see you. I can't see that far into the future but maybe we could join you for part of the trip. Sounds like a great time.

Don't you love the gearvenders. I have that in the Caddy.I am ,as we speak ,having a 373 9'' Ford built . My old rear was a 294 and I would only turn 1700 at 60 MPH.My max power ,for my engine ,is between 2200 & 2800.In Colorado we need the gearing.
I like your tow cars. I'mpartial to the Burb cause of it's age. Looks good with the A.S.
