Chevy Considering a 2007 Express 2500 6.0L Van - Good Tow Vehicle?

Seems to be a few people out there using these cargo type vans to pull their TT.

I am seriously considering going this route. The added space for my large pets and gear, as well as the added security makes it very appealing.

There are a few companies in town selling VERY clean and low mileage corporate fleet lease returns at good price points.

However, they ALL seem to be the 2500 as opposed to the 3500. I am wondering if the 2500 will be adequate for me, and what the trade-offs will be with this type of vehicle.

The specific vans I am considering have 6.0L V-8 OHV SMPI 16 valve engines. Rear-wheel drive - 3.73 axle ratio. 335 horsepower @ 4400 rpm, and 360 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm. They do come standard with a a Tow/Haul mode. I do not believethey have a tow package, so may need to upgrade transmission cooler.

FYI - I will be pulling a 66 Tradewinds, at 5500lbs fully loaded. I wll be using a weight distribution hitch.

Any and all opinions are welcome!

Should be totally adequate for your towing needs. My GM manual shows the GMC Savanna 2500 properly equipped rated for towing 10,000 lbs.

I have an 07 2500 yukon with the 6.0 engine. Does fine on our 28 ft classic. I would think the van would do great on your 24 footer, probably better that a 3500 (smoother ride). Being a cargo van it should have the iron block truck engine as opposed to the aluminum block.
