We have had Fred from new and he now has 80,000 miles on him. We custom ordered Fred as we wanted the snow plow prep package (this is the only way I could get the heavy duty front axle) and the vinyl flooring.

We needed to get a 3500 long bed as we travel with a 3200# Outfitter pop-up truck camper. When we add Lucy's 900# tongue weight, Fred is close to his maximum load capacity. A 3/4 ton wouldn't cut it for our use.

Here are a few pictures of the big guy.

Can you fit him into your garage? With a 6.5' bed I have about 4 inches to spare in my garage according to my tape measure. An 8' bed would be living outdoors.

GM didn't offer a SWR 1-ton for quite a few years. Can't recall when it came back right now....somewhere around 2010 or 2011.

We have one bay in our garage where Fred fits length-wise. Since the truck camper is almost always on board, he doesn't fit height-wise. Fred is relegated to be an outside truck.

Don't see many Ford or Ram 1 ton SRW trucks, either. Seems like I see more Ford 1 ton SRW crew cab 8' box than GM or Ram. I don't know why. I cannot remember seeing a recent GM or Ram SRW 1 ton.

Ha, come to be oilfield. The empty ones are Ford, the workhorses are (still) Dodge.

In addition to being a one ton, Fred is sporting a set of Firestone Air Bags to help him support his load.

I guess I see them a lot because the landscaping companies around here seem to use Ford F350 crew cab SRW trucks with 8' beds for their landscaping crews who tow all their equipment around our neighborhood with their big flatbed trailers. I never see anything but Fords used by the landscaping crews and it seems one or the other company is in my neighborhood pretty much every single day during the summer.

Funny you say that.. in houston, it's Dodge Rams - exclusively. And usually the tandem axle trailer is missing a tire somewhere

I think there is something funny about looking out my front window, onto our culdesac, and there's 3!!! different rams with long trailers all at the same time.

All of the SRW crew cab 8' box trucks around here are 250s/2500s.
