Chevy 1500 TV for Ambassador

Can I temporarily use my 1500 stepside Chevy as the TV for a 1965 Ambassador 28 ft. I am buying next week.
My brother is towing it 6 hrs.for me with his big diesel,but after that I am on my own.
It is a one owner very well maintained 180,000 miles small V8.auto.
Not sure of final drive.I have towed a Uhaul 16 ft fully loaded around town recently with ease.
I will be renovating when I get it and getting all systems up to speed
I will not be towing in the mountains and trips not over 400 miles for the time being.I will at least add a trans cooler and beefier shocks.

I towed my 1972 29 foot Ambassador with a 2000 Chevy Z71 with the 5.3 engine and 178,000 miles from Maine to Florida. I did have the braking system installed and made sure the AS trailer brakes worked. I also have new brakes, shocks and 10 ply tires. You should not have any problem-use the towing setting on your transmission

You should be able to tow it ok,just make sure you have brakes and an equalizer hitch. I towed a 73 27' with a 5.3 ok,but when I went to a 77 27' it just didn`t have the ump, had to run in 3rd gear which really killed my mileage.Finally got a 2500 with a 6.0.

It's doable, as long as you are set up correctly. Adding a transmission fluid cooler would be a real good idea. A quality weight distribution/sway control hitch system is a must, along with a trailer brake controller. Also, load range D or E tires would be a real good idea.
