Can't get out of park
Having trouble getting out of park in my truck. It is stuck on park and I cannot shift into drive or any gear. Know I should probably post this at a truck web site, but as I am a member here and know there are some smart people here, thought I'd try here here first.
It's a 2007 F250 4x4 6.0 v8 diesel with torqshift 5 speed auto tr
When it has happened before, I am eventually able to get it out of park and hit the road. So far today, I have not been able to. I am currently in the humid gulf coast of Texas, if weather could play any part in it.

Hate to ask a simple question..... Do you have your foot on the brake? The brake must be depressed for it to shift.

What may be happening is that you are not applying the parking brake when parking. When you have an extra load (your AS) and you just place your truck in park it places excessive force on the transmission. I never use the parking brake on my truck except when I have the AS attached.

I had this happen with an F-150 when I was hauling several loads of top soil in succession and overheated the anti-lock breaks and blew the fuse. Check the fuse and replace if necessary. That was all it took for me. This may not be your situation, but the transmission will not shift if the message that the brakes are being applied doesn't go through.
You may also try switching the ignition off and shifting to neutral and then restarting the engine so you can drive to a repair shop.
Good luck and hope either suggestion helps.

Try rocking the truck forward and backward a bit. With it turned off of course. Then get in, start the truck, depress the brake with a hard stab and hold it down while you try to shift.
We had a rental truck we'd used to haul some parts we didn't want in our own trucks. An F150. It wouldn't come out of Park. We did the above and it worked. It only happened the one time for us, but when we returned it we told the rental agency anyway.
Keep us posted on what works.

Putting my foot on the brake seemed to do the trick. I will look into the possiblity that a fuse needs to be replaced.
Thanks so much for your help. Knew there were a lot of smart people in the forums!

Another thing that can happen and bind you steering wheel is the column lock will bind if you have your wheels turned all the way to one side of the other. You will not be able to turn the key. Turn the steering wheel hard to the side you wheels are turning and it will release the pressure on the ignition and allow you to turn the key.

I hate to admit this but I did the same thing with my wife's '95 Chevy Astrovan. I was saying all kinds of choice words the first time I drove the thing because it would not shift out of Park. My next to oldest son, the really, really, really smart one said: "Dad, you have to step on the brake first!" I hate it when he is always right, which is most of the time. That van is about to hit 200,000 miles and still runs like a top.

hi westernviews
this is a very specific issue/problem....
and all the gyrations suggested will not help...
but they do trick you into thinking 'it worked'...
i'm embarrassed that i cannot remember the exact details of this issue,
since i had the same problem last summer.
when the truck is idling for just a short time
and while connecting/unconnecting the 7 pin plug, something happens...
this triggers the 'locking transmisson' action.
if you turn the truck OFF (while fiddling with it) wait a few minutes and restart it, the tranny unlocks.
as i vaguely recall there was a fuse or tranny temp fault code thrown, which had to be reset.
sorry i can't remember the details on this one.
sure you gotta have a foot on the brake to get out of park, but that is part of the issue,
as your brake pedal pressure isn't recognized during this fault event.
cheers

Not shifting out of Park
The fact you got it out of "Park" may be coincidental. There are several possibilities that may lend to this issue; 1) too much force on the parking pawl (bind), 2) steering wheel in a bind and 3) ignition interlock cable defective. Items 1 & 2 are self explainatory. Should this problem occur again, item 3 may require disconnecting the interlock cable from the ignition switch (usually mounted at the 12 o'clock position on the lower section of the steering column (must lower column for access)in order to shift out of "Park". Hope you don't have this experiene again, but real problems never fix themselves. Good luck, Larry

When I can't get out of park I start looking for a ranger to help me! They usually know their way around the place.
(Sorry...I couldn't resist.)

Two simple things to do.
Hi, there are two simple things to do. First, step on the brakes and see if the brake lights come on. [if not, you have a fuse or stop light switch problem] Second, call Ford Roadside Assistance. [if they can't get you going, they will tow it to the nearest Ford dealer to be fixed under warranty] And before first step, read owner's manual, it will tell you how to by-pass the lock-out mechanism if stranded.

I believe they will tow the airstream as wel up to a mileage limit. When I leased this 08 the dealer said the trailer is in tow if it breaks.
