Can You Tow Argosy TT with Argosy MH?

I was wanting to know if anyone has ever towed a Argosy trailer with a Argosy motorhome? Not that I have the funds or time for a project like this, just wanted to know if a Argosy 20' MH, 454 engine, could SAFELY tow a 20' to 24' Argosy trailer? If it could, a matching reovation/restoration would look very good and give us the option of how many family members could go on a camping trip. Are the 70's 20' Argosy's on a Chevrolet P-30 chassis? I don't think total length would be longer than the 1 ton Ext Cab 5th wheel TT'ers. Don't even want to talk about mpg's!

or is this just a crazy idea?

An Argosy 20 will weigh in around 3000 pounds, depending on equipment. As long as that doesn't reach 80% of the MoHo's tow rating, there should be no reason why it won't work.

I've been thinking about it for a while. I purchased a '75 Argosy 20' Motorhome with a 350 eingine. It was in state about 100 miles away. It needs EVERYTHING. I'm going to replace the 350 engine with a Chevy 350 high performace (330hp) engine and put in a new 400 transmission, new brakes, etc. It also nees a complete paint job--I just don't like the color-not original, very, very green. And, of course, it needs lots of work inside.

Then, about a 4 weeks ago, in found a '79 Argosy 6.0 Minuet that was also in state about 150 miles away. It is in very good shape. An Airforums member was selling it because of health reasons.

I'm not sure about towing the Minuet with the Motorhome, I purchased Minuet for daughter #2 (lives out-of-state, likes hiking, camping, etc.). But, if I did, I know it would look great.

new engine & transmission

The new 350 engine is installed. It is a high performace Chevrolet 350 with 330 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft of torque. We added a serpentine belt kit. Also, put in a new 400 transmission. Now, we're waiting on a radiator.

Plus, we're working on overhauling the brakes...........

Even if you just tow around the block for PICTURES, you should do it!!

and the green seemed hideous in the first pic.. but better in the close up...

I'd camp it.

I'm sure when the MH runs again I'll hook them up together to take a few photos. Maybe the green on the MH is just meant to be since the '79 6.0 Minuet has green stripes!

............no, that's just too much green for me

I don't have a clue whether it will work or not. But with the proper hitch setup I think that would be a cool pair. Colors look like the are close to a match. Im with DD ,do it, camp in it. People will sure remember ya. I dont think its that bad. You can paint it later.

appliances

The appliances came in last week, but are not installed. New cabinets first...

Dometic RM-2454 3-way refrigerator, a built-in microwave, and
a 16" Magic Chef Range.

This is a cool project. Can't wait to see the interior shots on the MH, and of course the finished pair together. Great work!

I towed a 60's Safari and then a 60's Caravel 2 summers ago with my 77 Argosy MH. Properly hitched and functioning trailer brakes and they towed fine! 1200 Miles with the Safari, 800 with the Caravel..

Sorry guys, the green is going away, going back to the original color. I'm not sure about the center stripe color, maybe navy blue. We did work on the original Onan 4kw generator. It has 437 hours on it. It needed a carburetor overhaul, coil, tune-up, fuel filter, and oil change. It works great now.

A PO owner had removed the Roto-Dinette table & seats & replaced it with a storage cabinet. The plan is to remove the cabinet, put in a cushion seat and a removable table so we can use the new seat, table, & couch for eating. The PO owner had also removed the stove/oven and replaced to with a toaster oven. I'm going back to the stove/oven combo. We're removing the 2-door full size refrigerator the PO had added & replacing it with a smaller 1-door refrigerator & microwave above it.

I was able to purchase a original 1975 Argosy Motorhome Owner's Manual on ebay a few months ago.
