Thinking about doing a 180 and getting the Bakflip for $800.
A Century High C mid rise cap $1,400 + Thule roof rack $300 + "windoors" $200 = $1,900.
Yikes! I ain't got $1,900 and I ain't got credit enough to borrow!

OK. I did a 180. I ordered the Bakflip G2 on Amazon for $750.
It's done.
If I don't like it, I'll sell it to one of you guys and get a cap.

The reason I went with the BakFlip VP is its multi sectional hard pieces are covered with a one piece vinyl cover which is supposed to be more water proof because the panel seams are not exposed to the weather. But having owned it for about 2 years now I've discovered some water still gets into the truck bed. My Tundra came with a plastic truck bed insert so I also purchased a Bedrug for the floor to save my knees. This keeps any water between the ribs of the plastic floor and the Bedrug. Enough air gets in for the water to evaporate. This summer I finally got around to installing the two drain hoses that attach to the bed side channel drain fittings but I'm still getting a little water infiltration. Luckily items in the bed don't get wet.

I chose the G2 because it is aluminum.

Prior to the AS, we slept in the back of the truck when we were in campgrounds, and the shell worked fine. My wife complained about the long drop from the tailgate to the ground when nature called in the middle of the night, but I wouldn't say it rose above the normal level of complaints women have about life in general. However, when we moved up to the AS, we stopped sleeping in the back of the truck. Then I began to notice how hard it was to see out the back of the truck, and how I had to contort my 70 year-old body around to load things, and how we couldn't easily carry a tree home from the nursery if we wanted to (see, old men can complain about life in general too). So when I got my new truck, I opted for a folding cover. Cost was not a consideration. Plus, it looks better.

My first truck was purchased about four years ago to pull my Airstream. I went to a place Called Cap city and spent some time talking to the owner- nice guy. He qualified me right away and then showed me what he had on his truck. One issue he said is that short bed trucks don't need to lose any bed length to a topper and, he said remember too that a cover is simply an out of sight out of mind proposition. If somebody wants in they will get in. With that he showed me his truck. He had a Truxedo Lo Pro QT cover. So, I got one too. That was four years ago. It was great- just rolls up out of the way for full bed use and is strong even if a soft cover. Today, I took my new truck to him for another one!

While there he also showed me their new product- the Titanium, an all aluminum vinyl covered roll up with no cargo loss. It had a roll-up tongue in groove design which when flat became a hard surface. Anyway, I still got the other one. It has a lifetime warranty and they will replace any part if there is a problem for around $450.

I believe the answer to what is needed has a lot to do with what kind of storage you need. The store has nearly everything. I liked a Leer cap he had and there was one with swing out boxes for tools. etc. really nice.

Looks very nice. Did you have to drill any holes for those drain lines? Where do they drain to?

Also, do you think you could mount something like this for bicycles near the cab? Is it sturdy enough?

I drilled holes in the plastic bedliner and removed a couple of plastic drain plugs in the bed.
That front fork bike rack thingy might mount on the narrow piece up by the cab with some bracing. Weight limit is 300#. There is another BakFlip model with a 400# weight limit.
I have a bed step coming, too. That might help to put a bike up there.
I wonder how hard it would be (or impossible) to put bikes on the roof. It was hard enough to put bikes on the roof of my Pathfinder that I got a receiver mounted bike carrier.
