Oil consumption

I just had the oil changed at the dealer today in response to the message that started coming on last week. I last had the oil changed in Milan, Michigan. From there. I towed across the upper penninsula, around Door County, back to Texas, a number of short to medium trips around central Texas, and a trip to Eureka Springs.

At change time, the oil was still at the full mark (none had been added) and was perfectly clean in appearance, actually cleaner than the oil in my Buick.

Fuel mileage is still great. I towed the 25 Classic at 65 mph, mostly in cruise control, from Oklahoma City to south of Waco on a little less than 19 gallons of diesel. That's better than 15 mpg. If I slow to 60, I get about 16 mpg towing.

We have a 2002 GMC, 2500HD; ext. cab, long box, D/A with approx. 45,000 miles. Last Spring we went from the mid-west to CA and back. I have posted the towing statistics below (I drove in CA without the trailer for about a month and that fuel consumption was not used in the towing mileage computations shown:
Going west:
2189 miles and 154.531 gallons14.1654 MPG & 52.62 MPH
Going east:
2180 miles and 154.885 gallons14.075 MPG & 51.905 MPH

Our trip to Lansing, MI and return this summer, including some driving without the trailer, and was as shown:
1423 miles 29.6 Hrs 99.617 Gal14.285 MPG; 48.07 MPH

Driving the Interstate speed limit without the trailer I average in the mid 19 MPG on an extended trip.
