Cadillac Escalade TV?

Have not seen much on Escalades as TVs on the forums. Whataya think? If (big if) I got one it would be a used pick up. Any thoughts on used Escalades?

Doug is right about the critical "payload" issue. On the other side of the scale: Escalades (and Yukon Denali's) have very strong 6.0 or 6.2 liter motors -- with more h.p. and torque than is available in other half-ton vehicles.

Given that the Escalades are high end luxury vehicles I've got a hunch they are geared pretty high. If I were looking at one I'd want the 3.73 gears minimum. Given the trailers you pull the Escalade would have no real problem except perhaps on really hard pulls (and you probably have them in New Mexico!).

The only trailer I have on the road, or plan to have on the road in the near future is the 71 Tradewind which wieghs about 4500#. The others are my "guest houses".

Cadillac is known for being the proving ground for GM technology, for example the 8/6/4 cylinder engines. Anybody know if the Caddy has any bells and whistles that other GM products don't?

NO. The 1/2 Suburban (and the regular Yukon) was not available with the 6.0 or 6.2 liter motor. Plus, the standard suspension in the Escalade and Denali is the Autoride (which is optional on the others) and gives them a much better ride. The earlier ones had 6.0 liter motors, a four-speed tranny and 3.73 gears; the newer ones have a 6.2 liter motor, a six-speed tranny and 3.42 gears.

I have pulled my 30'er with an Escalade EXT with a 6.2 and the older 4 speed. Although I was overloading the rear axle, the performance was more than adequate. Your light trailer will be no problem at all.....unless you put a cord of wood in the back.

The new ones have magnetic ride control, 400+hp and a 6 speed auto trans. Just to name a few bells. They will tow a 25 footer without issue. I don't believe that it will tow a new 31 ft classic.

If you've never driven a vehicle with magnetic ride control, its pretty impressive. It eliminates body movement regardless of road, wind and handling conditions.

Not necessarily. I got 9.5 on a bad day. and 12.5 on good day....with a 4 speed. I'd wager you'll see 12's on most days with your light trailer.
