Edit - *not surprisingly - city mileage stinks - 11-15 mpg perhaps

Honesty, those gas mileages are better than I would have expected.

Right now I have a 3 series Beemer and it's terrible. Avg 15 around town. Could be the driver, but I couldn't tell for sure.

I wonder if the suburban 3/4 ton would get similar results in tow and not.

Diesel > gas in terms of gas mileage, right?

If diesel gets better mileage I can't tell-
About 12-13 towing, 19-20 empty-
Is that enough better to justify the initial higher cost + higher cost of fuel + higher maintenance cost + that rattling sound + that smell?
For me- no- but there are many who disagree with me.

here we go again - I personally like a margin of safety on tow capacity

I have a 2012 silverado crew cab 4x4 with the 5.3 and tow a FC19, holds me, wife and our lab just fine. Was looking at a Tundra but the rear seats don't fold the way I wanted, the Chevy folds up the seat bottoms so you can use the floor (for the dog/bed). I prefer the crew cab over a Suburban or Tahoe so I can throw things in the back separate from the passenger area

The 2014 Tundra back seats fold up from the floor like the Silverado...

Gas mileage a bit better with diesel but diesel costs more - diesel has some higher maintenance costs - more oil - more torque - a gasser is just as good for your use I think - no big winner as far as I could tell - I found a diesel at a decent price and went that route but I think a gas model would do it just fine no problems

It's perhaps subjective - I've owned diesel cars - always enjoy the torque they provide - just love that aspect - a bit slower though from zero to 10mph - takes more to get em movin it seems like - I've gotten used to that

As far as I can tell after hours of reading forums - 3/4 ton diesel vs gas is a bit more like arguing finer details - both will no doubt do the job - drive both yourself to help decide.

Love my jake brake too

I arrived back in Arizona from Indianapolis with the new 2012 Ram 2500HD after the Kelderman air bag level ride suspension was installed. Dropping the rear to make it level allowed it inside our garage with a seven foot tall garage door. The garage was built with an extra five feet of depth and about two feet of the extra depth was needed to get the crew cab inside.

The photo I took with my wife beside the truck in the garage made her appear like Lillian Tomlin of the "Laugh In" sitting in the big rocking chair with her little girl pigtails. My wife's Mercedes E320 sedan looks like it would have fit inside the truck at least twice...

Glad I made that purchase decision.
