Bob's 2014 F-150 report.

Hi, On October 6th 2014 I bought a new 2014 F-150. I brought it home and took the family for a short drive in it. [about 20 miles] On the 7th of October I managed to get my Lincoln hitched up to my Safari, park my new F-150 in the garage with my wife's BMW X-3 with trickle chargers on both of them. Then on the 8th of October, we left for a two month vacation. Now we have been home for a while and I'm working on getting my 1,000 mile break-in done before towing duty. Today I bought my first tank of gas. Hard to believe that I actually own a full sized pick-up that will go over 500 miles on one tank. My Lincoln, BMW, 59 Galaxie, and Aprilia all took Premium gas and I had to rehearse asking for Regular. In Oregon I can't fill my own tank, by law.

(1.) October 6th new truck at the selling dealer.

(2.) New truck squeezed into my garage for two month hibranation.

(3.) Lincoln on first day of it's last towing job.

(4.) Getting to the bottom of the first tank of gas.

(5.) Digital display at gas station.

(6.) Close up of Fuel mileage, miles to empty, and total miles driven. My 36 gallon tank took 33.3 gallons to fill so I could have gone quite a bit father than the 8 miles to empty shown.

Please keep us informed, the extended range can be a great thing. Allows you to buy gas when you want to, not when you have to.

What was the ship weight of the truck and what is the adjusted empty weight (driver, full fuel and permanent gear aboard )? As this is part of the spec sheet per above posts.

I'd also add individual wheel positions weights to later compare it to the combined rig with WDH activated numbers both by axle and wheel position.

Look forward to more

Good, thorough review/report-
What do the rear fender liners do? I had never heard of them till just now.
Please give another review/report on the Retrax bed cover once you get it installed. I want a bed cover, and I like the looks of tonneau covers, but I think a shell (although I think they are ugly) would be more practical.

15.5 mpg. I guess that is combined city/highway calculated by hand. The onboard computer did a good job estimating, 15.9

I guess one of the reasons you have to pay higher fuel prices is to pay for the labor to fill your tanks.

Oregon state government doesn't think their citizens can pump gas safely?

Make sure you have relay switches and fuses for towing in your vehicle. They go in slots #9 and #21. I have a 2013 F150 with the towing package and just assumed they were installed. 6 months later I realized they weren't. Your tow lights will work without them but the AS batter will not charge while being towed without them. Not sure why Ford does not install them automatically but many dealers install them. The fuse and relay switch will be in your glove compartment.

Anyone know why Ford doesn't install them at the factory?

How does one get individual wheel weights? I've asked a number of folks in the Houston area and all I get is blank stares...

Bridgestone has a How To Weigh An RV pdf. Short version is that one gets one side of vehicle off of scale pad onto shoulder so that the other side of vehicles is all that is being weighed. Splitting the trailer tandem is hardest.

May require first finding best scale for this as even CAT builds them different per location , and second determining how to also back onto scale. A helper is advised.

New Jersey is a full service state by law and gas is less expensive in New Jersey than neighboring self service New York.

Hi, I will update information as it comes. I have read so many bad reviews and so many great reviews on these trucks; I can only tell it like it is. Hoping for the best because this truck is mine and might be my last.

Hi, I consider the shipping weight, or actual weight of this truck to be GVWR = 7650 minus the payload = 1745 to be 5,905 lbs.

I don't load my tow vehicle to the max and I don't load my trailer to the max either. I adjust my spring bars by wheel well height. My set-up has never seen a scale. And I'm OK with that.

Hi, In the old days all fenders were lined with plastic liners; Now Ford has decided that rear fender liners are optional so they don't come with the vehicle. This cost me about $120.00 and about an hour to install them. Early in January I have an appointment for my Line-X spray-in bed liner. Soon after that I will install my Reatrax Pro bed cover.

(1.) Without fender liner.

(2.) With fender liner.

Hi, unless I did it wrong, I came out with 16.65 MPG actual by dividing the total miles of 554.4 by the fuel taken of 33.282 gallons. Then again, In Oregon they stop the pump when it clicks off. I usually top off my tanks.

I'm not sure of the labor to pump gas, but it does give some people a job with pay, so I'm OK with that. And it's cheaper than what we paid when I lived in California.

** While at a gas pump in Northern California, the guy in front of me pulled the nozzle out of his filler tube with the gas shooting out of the nozzle like a water hose. I have never in my life seen this before. Then I noticed the Oregon plates on his vehicle and determined that this person possibly never pumped his own gas before.

Hi, I found the fuse and relay in my glove box and found where they go. Leaving them in the glove box, they could get lost or tossed. I think Ford learned this trick from General Motors. I read many complaints about this especially from those with GM tow vehicles who install disc brakes on their trailers.

Hi, the only ones that I have ever seen [portable scales] were at road side checks by the Highway Patrol looking for overloaded commercial vehicles. [ticket time]

I love mine. Got similar, but it's my daily driver, so I did a few things differently. I got the FX package, 3.55 and mine's silver. Matches my trailer Line-x'd the bed immediately.

I bought it in October and have 10K on it already...I know, I know... I hope to ease up on the mileage a bit, but that's my life right now. I towed my 26' 62 Overlander over 500 miles in pretty adverse conditions - high crosswind, snow, slush (North on 1-25 through Wyoming, if you know that road) both pickup (and trailer - pretty proud of that) were awesome - no anti-sway, just the original a-frame hitch/new coupler. The trailer is gutted but my whole shop and old skins plus new aluminum sheets plus..plus...plus.... was in there, so there was some weight, how much exactly I don't know. Plus the pickup bed was packed full. Plus me and my dogs... the back seats flip up and down very handily, making a really nice cargo area (came with the rubber floor liner) for them without trashing the seats.

Trailer spec'd at 3750 originally. Got 'about' 13mpg with that load (towing at altitude over 5,000).

Since then...many miles, unladen and laden. And some days at -20 F. Currently residing at 6700 elevation and going in and out of 4x4 every day. Really happy with this pickup. Had a 7.3 diesel before, so the towing difference is obviously noticeable, but not out of line with my expectations.
