I'll have to measure to be sure, but my bed is 8' in length, which may explain why the box that holds the rolled up cover could differ in dimension. I suspect my 4" guesstimate may be off a bit.

Retrax Pro.

Hi, a few friends came by this morning and we got the bed cover sitting on the bed. From there I got it in proper position and clamped in place. I later went out and installed the two drain tubes; It was 32 degrees out this morning and everything was icy. It was a bit warmer when I installed the drain tubes. The bed cover is a nice fit and works well. It also improved my gas mileage by 5 MPG. I was just testing to see if you were awake while reading this.

(1.) Not everything in this picture is white, without the frost on it. [house roof is black]

(2.) Mounted before the frost melted.

(3.) Name and number so I don't forget, or if someone else likes it they know who to call.

(4.) Finished mounting and fully retracted.

(5.) This shows one of the drain tubes; I chose to drill holes in the plastic plugs instead of the bed floor. Also note the room under the canister to the bed floor.

(6.) One of four mounting clamps.

(7.) Two empty containers an one ice chest for shopping. We always kept an ice chest in the Lincoln for cold items. [ice cream, Etc.]

(8.) Bed cover closed, tailgate open.

(9.) All closed and locked; Ready for the road.

Bob,

Looks a LOT like the one I have on my 2002 Tacoma P/U. My 2012 Taco TV has a solid tonneau on it.

Looks nice. I can just get spare propane tanks under the one one TV. Little Taco is not deep enough.

You will find that sheets of plywood or plasterboard fit under the box and sit on the tailgate edge--assuming the bed is wide enough. Just a strap to hold it in and you're good to haul stuff--which is what a P/U is all about IMHO

A bed extender flipped inside will allow, you to get rid of that tie-down strap across those totes and cooler. There may also be cut-outs/indentations in the bed to place a 2x4 vertically side to side to keep things in place.

Hi, I figured that my truck will hold more plywood or 2X4's than I will ever need to carry. And this is with the bed cover installed.

Hi, I noticed those places for the boards; right now, I have plenty of ratchet straps, no wood, and plan on mounting my generator back there. I will have see how everything is going to fit. I had a place for everything, except for my generator, in my Lincoln. I'm not sure that a bed extender will work with my generator, but I haven't ruled anything out yet. Today, on the other side of town, we bought a lot of cold items including ice cream. The ice chest worked great and was easier to get to than I thought it would be.

Hi, I ordered a new hitch shank, but don't have it yet, so not set-up yet. Tonight, I un-hitched the Lincoln from my trailer. I wanted to make sure that my Safari water leaks were gone before disconnecting my Lincoln. Otherwise I would have to tow it back to the shop. Hopefully the next time my trailer moves it will be with the F-150.

I still don't get how your shank drags. I have the Expedition with regular shank and it must be good foot above the pavement. Regardless, I will look forward to a towing comparison report. Moving from a four wheel independent suspension to a solid rear axle, and a more powerful engine.

Hi, my shank dragged a few times so I cut it off. The receiver on my F-150 is about four inches higher than the one on my Lincoln, so even if I didn't cut it, it won't work on my F-150. My Navigator has a solid rear axle not full independent suspension.

And the question is: Why did your shank drag while my Expedition [similar vehicle] doesn't? Well my answer is that my Lincoln has rear air suspension and while hitching and unhitching there is a process of opening and closing doors, and putting trans in gear with engine running and waiting for the suspension to pump up. Some times I take off before it is completely pumped up. Therefore it has dragged. Also Lincolns sit lower than Expeditions and two wheel drive models sit lower than four wheel drive models. Mine is two wheel drive.

Always have pulled build sheets on my used purchases. Only way to tell all you need to know. I think it is as important as a car fax report. Jim

How do you get a build sheet for a used purchase?
