Hi Bob, we used Shell Premium for the first time this weekend and averaged 13.5 mpg over a couple 100 miles

Conditions were Central Oregon, relatively flat ~ 3500 elevation, 2014 F-150 EB w/ Max tow, ~ 7,000 lbs TV weight pulling our 27'FC lightly loaded at 5,900 lbs.

Wind was light and 90 degrees off the left. (ok, port)

I'd be interested to see what you find if you go for the "good stuff"

Cheers,

Climber

ps ave speed 55-60

Just finished our third road trip with our F150, 3.5 ecoboost and ended up at Glazier National Park. Up hills and down, I couldn't tell we had a trailer on the back. Great truck, mpg not what they said we should expect but about 13 on the last trip. All in all very happy with this rig.

All this about fords , my close friend had 2 6l litre diesels, ford couldn't fix them so they fixed him up with a V-10 , at 138000 underpowered miles there is a noise in the valve train ford says this is normal, so he trades for a new 6 litre gas, 3000 miles later Wow! This is under powered and the exhaust is oily, I told him my dodge 6.7 diesel has 92000 miles and no problems with lots of power.

Hi, tjdonahoe; I started this FORD thread to let people know about my experience with my new F-150 Ecoboost and to share with those who have the same or similar vehicles. I have heard all of the bad stories from all of the auto makers including Dodge. My friend has a 6.7 L Dodge and it's a real nice truck, but one day we were traveling together and my 5.4 L Lincoln left him in the dust going up mountain passes in California. [We had the same trailers] My Lincoln is now retired from towing duty with 125,000 miles on it. Thus my thread reporting on how my new F-150 Ecoboost does as a tow vehicle.

I will post some info to add to Rob's F150 thread for sure to add to "the report". They are at least starting to discount the trucks.

Hi, great; I have seen quite a few 2015's haven't heard anything about them yet. Maybe you can start with which model, size, and options/equipment your new truck has.

Hi Bob. Thanks for keeping us appraised of your transition. I currently have a 2003 Ford Expedition which is the poor cousin of your Navigator. Same engine (except 2 valve not 3). Hauling a 27FB which is real similar to your trailer. Other than wishing for better gas mileage I've been pretty happy. Right now I'm hoping to last until the F150 is released with the 10 speed transmission. I'd like more low speed get up and go. The current 4 speed needs upgrading.

Kurt

Hi, Kurt; My Lincoln has the 4 valve engine and 4 speed trans. As for power, The Ecoboost has plenty. I actually burned rubber while pulling onto a main street and this was with the trailer attached. I have the 3:73 gears and people have said they have plenty of power while towing bigger trailers than mine with 3:55's and 3:31's. A ten speed would be even better.

Hi Bob:

Good to hear your on the road and making headway as they say. We have been running a 2014 F150 Eco with Max tow package since last fall and like it a lot. I have not kept really good records of gas mileage but I think we would be in that 11 MPG range pulling our 28' FC. It sounds like your in that range also. It would be interesting to know if running with #1 gas would help this and if it does, will the cost difference actually allow it to make sense?

If you get into central Canada, give us a yell as we have lots of room for courtesy parking if your looking to hang your hat for a few days. We are heading out ourselves in mid Sept for about 6-weeks. Heading west to do the west coast HWY down to the Redwoods. With luck the tourists will have gone home and the weather will be good...... Mind you I hear it is really dry in the MW this year, so I wonder how that will effect things?

Anyway have a good trip and stay safe

Cheers

Doug

Currently running a 2015 F150 Platinum pulling a 30' Cloud. Most intelligent and comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. Getting 11-12mpg when towing. This truck is lacking in payload capacity and feel like I am getting pushed around just a little bit. I have ordered a Classic which will be 1000lbs heavier then my Cloud so have decided to stop fooling around and go with 2016 F250 diesel. This will almost double my payload and up the towing to 14,000lbs. Won't be quite as sophisticated as the F150 but still a nice truck that should more then do the job. While at the International Rally I noticed that just about all who had 27' trailers and above had the F250 Lariat with a diesel. None had any complaints.

Verify the payload sticker on the Lariat before purchase. I've seen payload stickers on heavily optioned F250 diesels under 2000lbs because of the heavy engine.
