My Ford dealer will give me a loaner. I have 100k miles of free maintenance, so I’m not changing my oil. [emoji6]

Just for grins, ask for the specs on the oil they use for "free maintenance".

Do I really care if it meets manufacturers recommendations?

Too long to explain. In short, engine oils are becoming more and more manufacturer specific in their specs...like auto trans fluids have been for decades. Plus, there is some real crap out there, along with non-oem filters.

I get that, but if it meets Ford’s requirements and is put in by my dealer at the recommended intervals why do I care? If it’s manufacturer specific and Ford says it’s okay for my truck, then I should be good. If not their bad not mine.

True, but who says a dealer has to use Ford spec for their voluntary 100k promo? As countryboy says, ask them and have the repair orders document what is used. Bulk oil comes form regional "No name" manufacturers all the time. I see it in fleet shops a lot. When I see unexpected unusual engine issues isolated to a fleet, I ask for their oil supplier certification papers. Most of the time it is an eye opener for the fleet that there isn't any certification. Not saying this is the case with your dealer, but ask. Crawl under there and see if you are getting an oem motorcraft filter. Junk filters is a worse situation than the non-cert oil.

Also, do you think Ford will back them and your warranty if improper oil and filter are used?

This is good stuff, thank you. Appreciate the detail as to why as opposed to the blanket recommendation. I’ll ask and it’s good to know what should be shown on the documentation in the event there is an issue.

Warranty is offered by Ford not by my dealer. Just checked my ppwk. So I would hope so.

Warranty or free oil changes for 100k? Two very different thinks. For sure your warranty is from Ford.

Hmmmm, then you paid for a Ford maintenance plan? I don't believe Ford corporate offers free maintenance as standard for 100k.

Negotiated. Caught the finance man being shady called him out and made him sweeten the pot or I would walk out and he could explain to the salesman and sales manager why I walked out.

Is this what you have? If so, it is anything BUT free. However, if it is what you have, Ford watches the materials used and requires oem oil and filters and maintenance parts. But never hurts to ask, as suggested before.

No mention of promotion but I see how that could be implied as Ford’s service plan is typically not offered for free.

Not looking to get into an argument. I sincerely appreciate the recommendation to look at what they are putting in my truck.

I keep most all of my vehicles. Chevy and Ford full size GASOLINE vehicles usually always go past 250,000 miles without major repair expense.

Just my experience...
