The Navistar 6.0 and 6.4 are the fords to stay away from. The 99-03 with the 7.3 is the way to go if strapped for cash. The 11-12 with the corporate 6.7 and new 6 speed can't be beat.

So why does fords new superman engine only have a 60k mi warranty and the Chevrolet has a 100k mi warranty?

We have pulled Lucy over 80,000 miles with our 3/4 Quadrasteer Suburbans. The 6.0 liter gas engines were quite adequate for the job, and the interior storage space was hard to beat.

Lucy's new tow vehicle is a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Duramax/Allison. His name is Fred, and he is a single rear wheel crew cab long bed. Fred's eight foot bed is sporting and Outfitter pop-up truck camper who we call Ethel. Ethel tips the scales at a little over 2,000 pounds.

Fred can handle this plus tow Lucy without breaking a sweat.

The truthful answer is because the market hasn't demanded it... people are buying the Fords without a long warranty. Ideally, a manufacturer wants to have a long-life engine with a short warranty. They offer long warranties as a way to convince a skeptical market that they believe it'll last a long time more than because the manufacturer is sure it will, though if they want to stick around a while in the business they better have a decent engine or warranty costs will hurt.

I see it as ford is protecting themselves from warranty cost. The Duramax always had a 100k warranty since day one. I would be afraid to own that new ford engine after 60k, a repair could put you in the poor house. Faith only makes you feel better at the time.

Powertrain is 5yr./60k but the engine itself it 5yr./100k

Yup, these MAN MADE devices are scarey...but with less than a 1% problem overall,..I can't see it being an issue. I mean look at GM..they are running the exact same HPFP....all is good with GM right?

I'm glad we have all those out there doing the road/towing tests on the new eco150. With what has been reported so far. it appears to be the "cats meow" My question is why you all didn't by the 3.5 (?) 6 be for it was put on steroids? This is the same engine. I also heard that this engine has been out for several years in the MKX and has done well; but NOT towing.
In the reports so far, it appears that the big advantage is the speed going up hill; but MPG is about the same as other TV's
I have to see more long term and distance use before I would buy.

any diesel keep it stock,keep up on maintenance,dont let the newer ones sit and idle,and use it as a daily driver.i have done this with my dsl ex with the horrible 6.0 engine and havent had one problem in 100k miles.just came back from a 3000 mile trip and truck and trailer performed flawlesly.all the newer diesels in stock form have more power than you need to tow any airstream.by the way my brother is a ford tech so i hear the good,the bad,and the ugly on all ford motors.people generally are too cheap to keep up on maintenance that causes lots of problems.

W/o a doubt, the Ford diesel pickup with a nice topper. We've equipped our '05 F-250 (short bed, crew cab) with bunks under the topper and leave the 27' AS in the campground if we really want to rough it. Cabelas makes a nice big tent that attaches to the back of the truck and topper. On the topper go two kayaks and two bikes ride on the top of the truck cab. I've now modified our hitch-mounted bike rack to work on the front end of the truck (tired of heaving the bikes up in the air). We are active seniors and really use that "wasted" space in the truck bed. Can't imagine trying to fit it in a car. We love our Airstream but storage is limited and the truck bed (under the topper painted to match the truck) is ideal for the grill, charcoal, kayak paddles, fishing rods, bike pump, tackle box(es), hiking sticks, backpacks, on and on.

Amen on the 2011 ford f-250, 4x4 , 4 door diesel.
16 mpg towing , 19+ mpg without.....plenty of power.
however, take a pacemaker with you when you go to the dealership and price it......i about stroked. it should last me the rest of my days....awesome vehicle.
