Shane - I'm just glad I didn't order a GM or Fiat (Ram) product - it's so hard to debate you...
And I am not being disrespetful to "Ram" trucks - but I don't know what "Fiats" corporate name is, I know Chrysler-Dodge's parent company was Daimler-Chrysler when they formed up with the Germans, then Chrysler when they were spun back off, is it Fiat-Chrysler now or once again just Chrysler and thus Chrysler Ram or Fiat ram?

I've actually done my homework before investing in a 60,000 dollar truck.
But to each his own. I believe since Ford is just starting with their new diesel they have A LOT of room for growth..GM and Dodge are about maxed out.
No Joke.
Ford is gonna lead For long time to come, unless GM and Dodge revamp their diesel program...which I doubt......with the taxpayer debt and all.

I agree - currently I feel quite the "Subject Matter Expert" in trucks after all the research I've done - 60k is too many clams for this cowboy to spend without first doing the homework - screw brand loyality as its my money - just nice it worked out for me that I'm a fan of the Fords as well....

Didn't the Chevy win? You Ford/ Chevy people crack me up! people are very passionate about their tow vehicle. May I suggest German if you want a GREAT diesel engine.

seems like the only place the ford beat the chevy was in fuel economy
seems to me if you have a $60,000 trailer and a $55,000 truck then fuel expenses should be the least of the worries.

I think it is great the way Ford helps its owners out with extended warranties and assistance with repair bills when it became apparent that their product was just not up to par. If they knew to ask. My brother-in-law was very grateful when I provided him with a service problem case-history that was excellently described on this forum. Saved him 1,500 in warranty assistance on a 2,500 bill.
Meanwhile, we Duramax owners just follow recommended-maintenance intervals and keep driving. Ho-hum. But we do miss the drama of Ford ownership. But thanks, you guys. It is nice to see how the other half lives, repair-wise.

Same work over most miles at lowest cost. FORD still has a very long way to go to meet even what Duramax has done over ten years, much less what Cummins has for more than twenty.
What's needed to pull even the biggest A/S plus a big payload was met years ago with less complex, overall cheaper diesel trucks.
For those who trade every five years or so . . there is no "best" outside of personal opinion.

When I bought my first truck, a 2500 HD Chevy with a 6 L gasser, I bought the first Chevy in the family since Dad bought a '34 Ford. I showed up at Thanksgiving dinner and they all just looked at me real "funny", except for my truck-driver nephew (nephew by marriage) who would never own a Ford.
When asked why we bought the Ford, I said it was an easy choice. There was more room in the back seat for the dog (extended cab), it rode more comfortably (Torsion spring front end), it stood 3 inches lower for easier access for my wife, and the 6L v8 was more of an engine than Ford's 5.4. That truck was wonderful and was traded in for an '08 Chevy with LMM Duramax Diesel.
So, I do find it interesting what truck buyers use to support their $55,000 purchase of said vehicle.
I happen to like this article from Trailer Life who have a very close connection to Ford, ie: their yearly "Guide to Towing"
Diesel Shootout: The Big Three
Here's their conclusion:
So, in an extremely close call, the Chevy takes our overall top choice of the three due to its blend of power, refined towing and non-towing ride and handling quality, steering response and braking control. Just don’t ask us to choose again tomorrow.

My reasoning is Success. I have had Fords my entire life. Never had a major issue or problem. My 7.3 had 198,000 miles and only had to replace the water pump. I just keep on upgrading.
In my line of work and in my lifetime I have driven well over a million miles and all have been in a Ford.
Plus with the added no bailout money and not putting that tax burden on the American people ,..well lets just say when I drive my Ford I can hold my head a little higher.
But, thats me.

On the other hand, what's more American than an American owned company? Do you think we should have let an Indian Company buy it?
Never-the-less, I bought a lot of Ford shares in November of '08 at $1.58 per share. At that time, it looked like all the American car companies were going "belly-up". I guess I had more confidence in an American company than most people. Anyway, I sold them last month at $16.85 share. I'm now on an extended 3 month vacation.
When the Duramax is ready to be traded in, I will look very closely at the Fords, as well as the Chevys, and see who will give me the best deal, assuming the new ford power plant/transmission are holding up, which I expect them to do.
