I tow a 31-footer with my V8 Twarg. Does a pretty good job.

You'll love pulling a Bambi with the V8. It's a piece of cake.

I sold my 19' and got a 25FB and have been doing OK with the V8 except it has to work much harder here in the CO mountains. So this week I just picked up a 2007 V10 Turbo Diesel which should do much better. This thing will snap your head back.

Except the Germans decided to leave out the the wires for the brake controller!! Had to run my own wires, but wasn't too hard. Now just waiting to go for the test tow!!

Also which mirrors do you use. Mine are a bit small for the huge mirrors on the TReg.

I decided to go hunting for the wiring for the brake controller and it was right there staring at me! Etrailer just sent me my replacement wiring harness, so now I'm waiting on VW and for my relay. I can't wait to hook her up!

I just had to get new mirrors... try these - they work well and are cheap

Installation hint: Cross the elastic straps when you mount the mirrors for a better fit on the Treg.

I redid the WD and anti sway tonight. Nice and level ( the storage spot isn't ) and now for the rewire! My last part of the puzzle comes tomorrow night!

Brad - you are still squatting too much in the rear - if we saw the front suspension I know it would be raised up. Can you take anything out of the rear storage space of the Touareg to raise it a bit?

It was empty in the rear and I had to lower the ball two notches to get the trailer level with 5 links under stress on the Reese WD hitch and when I measured before and after there was not that much difference. The front raised up a bit as well but not much. The storage spot is not all that level so once the brake controller is in I can move her home to a level spot and rework the set up a bit. There was a camper in my way to get a full shot.

Alright folks. I may be forced to sell the house and live full-time in the Airstream, but I pulled the trigger and traded a perfectly good gas sucking F-150 on a used 2010 Touareg TDI.

I know the general consensus is that it's not safe to tow a 25 foot Airstream with anything less than an F-350 dually, but I put a lot of faith in the opinions of those of you actually towing with Touaregs.

I already had the exact hitch recommended by Andy Thompson, a 1,000 pound round bar EZ-Lift. I'm going to give that a try first. Otherwise I have an Equal-i-zer in the garage that I used until the head cracked (but was replaced for free by Equal-i-zer).

The Touareg is everything I value in a good tow vehicle. Great power, great fuel economy, massive brakes, independent suspension, low center of gravity, and short rear overhang to wheelbase ratio.

I know this is dumb, but unfortunately I bought a tow vehicle without a hitch. I don't plan on cutting any corners with aftermarket hitches and will go straight to the factory VW installed hitch. This is such a sweet ride and I'm looking forward to my first tow.

Nice TDI! I agree about the factory hitch - it's a moose and we installed after market as well. You'll likely need to do a tweaking on your computer after your done but there's plenty of help available if you need.

Wow, that looks great -- I SO wanted to do the same thing but couldn't find a way to afford both! Once I've got the trailer outfitted, I'm going to start saving up...

P.S. You could always take it to Andy and CanAm to be installed.

Nice! Are you going to beef it up like Camam does? I love my Touareg with the Bambi and would like to upgrade to a 23' in a few years and at that point I might make a trip up to Canada to reinforce the hitch. I love the TDI but $$ kept me from getting one, the V8 pulls like a dream and the MPG is similar to a truck so no big deal. Keep us posted on how everything works out.

Not sure what truly defines "safe." I think it has a lot to do with your hitch and the operator. I pulled my 31-footer with a V8 Touareg over 7,000 across 9 states. It's a beast.

I've had my eye on the TDI since the smaller V6 version came out and have watched them slooooowly drop until finally one came up that was everything I wanted (except the hitch) at a very very good price. I didn't NEED a newer vehicle so I had the power in the negotiations and they met my price.

I'm going to e-mail Andy Thompson and get his opinion. I definitely will have him do the hitch reinforcement and I'll be in the Detroit area in July. I want to see if thinks it's alright to tow about 5,000 miles BEFORE getting up to have him do the reinforcement or if I should do it right away.

I'm really going to be putting this Touareg through its paces. In the past four years I've averaged 15,000 miles per year of towing.

Here are the pictures I promised yesterday. You'll notice the dog has already made himself comfortable by the hair in the back.

It looks silver when the sky is overcast but it's 'white gold metallic'. I love it. I also really like the way the dark interior makes the wood pop.

We'll have to compare notes in Branson. I missed the rally the last two years but may be able to make it this year.
