I have the same ones and mount them on the bottom as well. They work great!

I ordered the Milenco Aero mirrors years ago before they were sold in the U.S. Now you can get them here and I think the U.S. version has longer arms. They're probably not as stable as the McKesh, but I'm very pleased with them.

Check out the recent entry from JamuJoe. He has Milenco mirrors and they are the rectangular version and look great on his Jeep. I posted a photo of my Teardrop shaped Milencos and they also look great and perform well, no vibration. Also check out their presentation on utube. I used McKesh for several years and they are great as well. The Milencos are just a bit easier to use and present no issues with paint. Jim

The Toureg is just coming on my radar. We're in the market for a used TV. We have a FC25 and I think that would be well under the 7700# rating if properly hitched etc. etc.

I see lots of discussion about the "factory hitch." On late models like 2011, 2012, will the hitch mean that it has all the tow package goodies, or are there other option codes I need to know?

Of course V8 vs. V6 is a question. We are hill climbers in the West, so we need to get over all those tall passes.

On the surface, this looks like a GREAT size for us. Any advice about the 2010 through 2012s? That's about as new as I could afford.

The models changed in 2010 I believe, to the second generation.

There is also a 3.0 diesel.

Not sure on towing prep, as it seems to differ between the US and Canada. New models here have a receiver as standard, but it used to be an option. The receiver and wiring interface was the extent of the towing prep, IIRC.

Lots of confusion about the 3500 kg/7700 lb tow rating and the corresponding tongue weight limits. Some vehicles had documentation that said 616 lb, (8%) while others said 770 lb (10%). VW shipped out replacement owners manuals and stickers to some purchasers who asked for them and had the 616 lb stickers, but not sure if that applied to all years of production (1st generation vs 2nd generation).

Good info on ClubToureg forum, as well as from some current and previous owners here.

Jeff

Check out the new Grand Cherokee's too - I've owned Cayenne S, TDI Touareg & Srt Grand Cherokee - the diesel version would be a great option.

Diesel Touareg or Grand Cherokee and your doing fine!

Any reason to use the small teardrop mirrors instead of the larger "universal" Milenco units?

Newbie here and the dealer wasn't really sure. Thank you!
I've got the VW parts but am also trying to figure out the RELAY. Is this a VW part or something my installer will have? Same query out to my installer today. Thanks in advance for the great advice!

Best,

You purchase the "automotive relay" from any good auto parts store or electronics store - I used Waytek at www.WaytekWire.com .

Maybe I'm being really ignorant about this (not a vehicle electrician), but is there a particular relay that you folks have used? I've procured the appropriate VW parts. Dealer seems confounded.

It has been a few years since I went through all this with my Touareg. I don't remember anything about a relay, but I remember a "Trailer Tow Module" that instals in the rear corner near the two 12 volt and one 120 outlets. When a trailer is plugged in, it switches the VW to "tow/haul" mode, disables the remote tailgate, etc. It also detects the low voltage of LED tail lights so your display isn't warning you about burnt out trailer lights.

I found all my information on ClubTouareg.com.
