Airstreams in Automaker ads and testing

Have you ever wondered why Airstreams show up in all the automaker's ads and even prototype testing? Is it because they're so iconic or easy to tow? Maybe both.

Just saw an article about VW's new Atlas Cross Sport (5 seat version of the Atlas) and guess what's behind it? And, if you look close on the last photo in the sequence you'll see what looks to be a Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch setup.

I saw another AirForums post where someone was asking about towing with a Subaru Accent. I guess Subaru also published a video towing an Airstream. Jeep just did it with their new Gladiator truck, Ford's TV ad shows one.

Some argue these are marketing ploys and may exceed the actual vehicle's capabilities. Either way, it makes me smile

Of course it’s marketing. People who are willing to buy high $ products like an airstream, likely won’t hesitate to buy an extremely expensive tow vehicle.
