I too have the Firestone air bags on the rear with the in-cab compressor. It sure makes it easy to on-off the hitch wings on my EqualIzer and it keeps the "porpoise" down on the "interstate hop" situations. It's one of my best mods to our TV.

So, you are saying the air bags do improve the ride while towing? Is this correct?

Yes, I think so. I have a 1996 Ford Bronco that has the Firestone air bags installed and because of how much the airbags made such a difference in towing our utility trailer and boat, I installed them on my F-250 after we bought our AS. It wasn't that I NEEDED the airbags, but I WANTED them just to give me an extra edge when a semi passed me doing 90 or when driving all of the curvy mountain roads we have here in the western states. When not loaded and the air pressure at 0 , there is no difference in the ride. When hooked up to our AS, I keep the pressure at 60 lbs, which seems just right for towing.
