2019 Tundra 5.7 4x4 Twoing 22FB Caravel?

I have been pulling our new to us 2000 Excella 34 with pro pride hitch for 2 years all over country with no problems. It is under the 9800 gvwr and within both axle ratings and level using the pro pride hitch.

Use Tow-Haul mode when towing.

Read up on the S gear and how to shift down and up when driving hills. You will love this. We have had both a 22 and a 25 from Kansas City to Yellowstone and back. The lower S gears makes the engine slow you down so you very rarely touch the brakes.

There is a headlamp throw adjustment if you need it if the light isn't hitting the ground when you are hitched.

We love our Tundra/Airstream combination

Question. If your setup is done correctly, should you need a headlamp adjustment?

We have 29 ft excella and have 07, 13, and 18 crew max TRD 4x4. We also have tow package and offroad. We have towed from Texas to Nova Scotia. TX to Alaska, pretty much every state and especially Colorado. Our son inherited our 07 and 13. He pulls a bigger trailer (not AS) gvwr 10000 with an atv in bed of truck through Colorado. Only complaint is fuel economy is poor but you probably know that.

I'm on my 8th silver trailer . the latest is a 25" FC . I tow this one with an"18 4x4 Tundra . The truck does just fine . I hardly know that i have the trailer on. My biggest Stream was a 35' with a slide that i put 80,000 0n with a dodge 2500.Before you buy be sure to have an expert check your running gear and trailer frame. They do rust and wear out .

Many of my friends would like Toyota to make a heavier duty pickup. I visited a Toyota dealer before ordering an F250. I told him I needed over 4,200 lbs rear axle max weight, about 2,000 lbs payload (750 for TW, 300 for wife and I, 200 for topper and the difference 560lbs for tools, BBQ, and other stuff we bring camping. He informed us that Toyota did not have product to meet these requirements. OP already has an HD, which will come in handy for his next AS upgrade! Most Tundras I have met towing 25+ foot trailers are over gross vehicle weight, payload, and possibly rear axle weight. I know people responding to OP have towed a lot of weight all over the country with Tundras, but anyone ever wonder why Toyota bothers to list their maximum weights??? Most of them over 26 ft are over max weights! At this moment, we are in convoy of 10 AS enroute to international. All are veteran towers - no Tundras in camp!

In my opinion, no. I have the headlamp adjustment capability and never use it. My guess is it might come in handy if someone were hauling heavy stuff in the bed, not pulling a trailer with WD.

Well, the Tundra is a 1/2 ton truck. Most other 1/2 ton trucks would be in the same position with a 25+ AS

Well, not really. My half ton is well within all load specs with my 30' classic. Toyota just doesn't do a suitable "max tow" package like the big 3 do.

Full timing work camping in an RV park, I see all types of 1/2 ton P/U’s towing bumper pulls over capacity. Also see a surprising number of 3/4 ton pickups pulling 5th wheels beyond their trucks capacity. Very easy to spot.

I am confident that a Tundra can handle a 22FB. My Honda Ridgeline towed ours and I have the Cat Scale tickets to document it was within spec. I challenge the bragging Tundra owners towing 23’ and larger who have posted to this thread provide documentation of their setups with weigh tickets to prove they’re in spec.

We have the same set up and it tows like a dream! Gas mileage about 11mph.

What is your TV and what is the payload capacity? Payload capacity is generally the limiting factor for 1/2 tons. Payload capacity will also vary within one truck model based on options & configuration (Crewmax, extended cab, or regular cab).

Chevy 1500 double cab, regular bed, 2015, maxtow. 2064 payload, 3950 fgawr, 4300 rgawr, 11,700 max trailer weight.
6.2l, 8 speed, 420hp, 460 torque.
The only time I need more payload is when I take my scooter, inflatable boat, 10hp motor and accessories for those. Then I'm about 200# over on payload, but under on axle ratings. Only two passengers.

Toyota makes a diesel Tundra but it has not been brought into the states...yet. Toyota has many other models overseas but not available in the states. I recall 20-25 years ago when Toyota finally brought the first-generation Tundra into the states. It had been available elsewhere in the world but not in the states. So I imagine the diesel will show up one of these years, probably not too long from now. It will be very popular!

The diesel Tundra has been tested by Toyota in the US in Texas a year or so ago, per my friend that works for Toyota. So far, no new rumors on when or if it will be available. Meanwhile, I keep towing with my Tacoma...

Nice setup. Your GAWR’s are close to mine (4000F/4150R), but my payload is only 1300. It must be because of all the weight other options add...4wd, sunroof, Crewmax cab, etc etc, I guess. GVWR is 7200. Seems to come out fine on the scales with a 23D. Loaded for camping in right at GVWR, but have a good bit of margin on the axles.

2017 FC23D pulled by a 2015 Tundra Crewmax Limited 4x4.
Returning from a 2 week trip all set up with a bunch of stuff in the bed and the back seat. All people and dogs aboard.

Not saying I’m always loaded like this, but this is a real life example. I’m right at GVWR but have a good bit of margin on axles.....and way below GCWR.

Since then for good measure I upgraded brakes TO slotted rotors and when new tires were needed went with H rated tires on tow vehicle.

GAWR front: 4000lbs, GAWR rear: 4150lbs

It ain’t braggin’ if it’s true. Somebody said that. 😀
