Well, not really. My half ton is well within all load specs with my 30' classic. Toyota just doesn't do a suitable "max tow" package like the big 3 do.

Full timing work camping in an RV park, I see all types of 1/2 ton P/U’s towing bumper pulls over capacity. Also see a surprising number of 3/4 ton pickups pulling 5th wheels beyond their trucks capacity. Very easy to spot.

I am confident that a Tundra can handle a 22FB. My Honda Ridgeline towed ours and I have the Cat Scale tickets to document it was within spec. I challenge the bragging Tundra owners towing 23’ and larger who have posted to this thread provide documentation of their setups with weigh tickets to prove they’re in spec.

We have the same set up and it tows like a dream! Gas mileage about 11mph.

What is your TV and what is the payload capacity? Payload capacity is generally the limiting factor for 1/2 tons. Payload capacity will also vary within one truck model based on options & configuration (Crewmax, extended cab, or regular cab).

Chevy 1500 double cab, regular bed, 2015, maxtow. 2064 payload, 3950 fgawr, 4300 rgawr, 11,700 max trailer weight.
6.2l, 8 speed, 420hp, 460 torque.
The only time I need more payload is when I take my scooter, inflatable boat, 10hp motor and accessories for those. Then I'm about 200# over on payload, but under on axle ratings. Only two passengers.

Toyota makes a diesel Tundra but it has not been brought into the states...yet. Toyota has many other models overseas but not available in the states. I recall 20-25 years ago when Toyota finally brought the first-generation Tundra into the states. It had been available elsewhere in the world but not in the states. So I imagine the diesel will show up one of these years, probably not too long from now. It will be very popular!

The diesel Tundra has been tested by Toyota in the US in Texas a year or so ago, per my friend that works for Toyota. So far, no new rumors on when or if it will be available. Meanwhile, I keep towing with my Tacoma...

Nice setup. Your GAWR’s are close to mine (4000F/4150R), but my payload is only 1300. It must be because of all the weight other options add...4wd, sunroof, Crewmax cab, etc etc, I guess. GVWR is 7200. Seems to come out fine on the scales with a 23D. Loaded for camping in right at GVWR, but have a good bit of margin on the axles.

We’re on our way to International. Maybe I’ll see you there.

2017 FC23D pulled by a 2015 Tundra Crewmax Limited 4x4.
Returning from a 2 week trip all set up with a bunch of stuff in the bed and the back seat. All people and dogs aboard.

Not saying I’m always loaded like this, but this is a real life example. I’m right at GVWR but have a good bit of margin on axles.....and way below GCWR.

Since then for good measure I upgraded brakes TO slotted rotors and when new tires were needed went with H rated tires on tow vehicle.

GAWR front: 4000lbs, GAWR rear: 4150lbs

It ain’t braggin’ if it’s true. Somebody said that. 😀
