2019 RAM 1500 Intro

Here () is a link to some information about the new 2019 RAM 1500.

It appears as though they have reduced the weight by 225 pounds but have increased payload (I haven't heard any numbers yet). Payload is the achilles heel of the RAM 1500. So I'm curious how this issue has been addressed. Particularly are they planning on having a "max tow" package like the F-150 and the Silverado 1500. If anyone hears anything in this regard please post.

Looks like a nice truck overall, i especially like the interior!

Despite a 4-inch wheelbase stretch (to a claimed longest in class), the new frame dropped 100 pounds for a 17 percent weight savings. Max payload increases by 420 pounds to 2,300, and towing capacity increases from 10,650 to 12,700 pounds. (That beats Chevy, Nissan, and Toyota but falls short of Ford’s 3,270 and 13,200 ratings.)

From an article, and in searching yesterday for something else, Ford's 3270 is for a stripped down long bed 4x2, most real world numbers for what people buy is 1500-1600lbs, so with a MAX of 2300 it will be interesting to see where they end up once configured and optioned out.

What is their "claimed" maximum payload on the current version? Seeing as though real world ends up being around 1000lbs. (found it, max 1880)

Crazy max tow ratings are mostly about bragging rights & mean little to us towing TTs. If you are buying a truck to tow a 9k plus TT you would be much better served by a HD. Bread & butter is 6 to 8k for a 1/2 ton towing TTs.

Longer wheel base is good but is it longer tip to tale because they barely fit in many garages now. Lots fit 1/2 tons in a garage but HDs often sit outside. DW wants one that will fit in a garage if it’s to be used for more than camper towing duty.

Payload was needed but sounds like they got at least some through weight reduction. Hope they also raised the GVWR some. Most common model Big Horns end up with like 1,250. If the payload rating goes up by 420 pounds it would help the legalistically minded. Which unfortunately our society is being driven more towards. You don’t see many chevies or ford’s on the lots with the bigger rear axle heavier payload option but it sure helps the internet warriors to spout superiority. Well and those that order their truck that way to stay “legal.”

It does look like a nice truck but they all copy each other so much now with badging, cosmetic features, bells & whistles features.

Used to leave my HD outside. Then I realized they are taller, not longer. Most garages are at least 20' long so anything but a long bed fits. Of course, many people have a ton of crap in the garage so nothing fits. just check the height. Mine clears by 1-1/2" but that's no issue.

Looks like they are trying to set a new bar.
