I LOVE the technology of modern vehicles!
All of it is helpful at some point, yes it can lead to increased maintenance costs but for the most part this kind of tech is a purchase it and use it kind of thing.

I'm not at all fond of Fords newest truck styling but you have to admire what they are designing in as far as features and capabilities!

I admit I am a Ford person. Always have been and since buying an F250 Super Duty and now a 2015 F350 Super Duty I thought I was done. But my sales person, from whom I've probably purchased over 150 vehicles (most company vehicles) in the past 18 years keeps sending me stuff on the 2017 F250 Super Duty. I do not want to trade, but it is becoming interesting. He sent me this and also told me I could order now for November delivery as they have the full order specs. But, my wife of 48 years tells me a new truck could be the end. The dogs and I would miss her.

Yea and the dealership sends me birthday cards and to my wife etc, When I walk in it's like Norm walking into the bar - Everyone knows my name. And on top of that it's working this newest piece of info I am posting is getting me closer to actually asking my wife - I tell her nothing after this long, that I would like to go down and price one with ours as trade. I have time on my side.

We're going to continue seeing more tech going into vehicles. Of course with more tech, comes more complexity. The company I work for, ARM, makes a lot of the brains for this new tech and I'm still amazed at how advanced our vehicles are becoming.

All of that said... you knew that was coming didn't you? ... I'm not sold on quite so many camera systems as they are starting to add to the system. I think a backup camera is really not an option any more, but now they are putting cameras on the mirrors and top and front and ....

Having just looked at and bought a ¾ ton, the price tag has become staggering. Now granted the vehicles aren't these stripped down vehicles that I used to drive in the military, but still the price tag for all this tech is really going to be a factor when purchasing.

It's really going to be interesting if pickups.com does another heavy duty shootout. They haven't done one since 2014 and only used gas engines at the time. In that shootout, Ford didn't do so well (took last place). But they have made significant improvements since 2014, so I would expect them to place better with all the new improvements (I'm still not sold on going aluminum body, mostly due to repair costs rather than the steel vs. aluminum rhetoric).

We compared tow vehicles for our use early this year and got another half-ton for drivability and comfort, a good match for us. They are putting a lot of technology in trucks of all sizes. The prices are staggering but the discounts can be huge, we actually planned on a larger SUV but the truck was simply a better buy.

I have a 2016 F-150. Without the camera system (360 degree vis), it would take me a LOT longer to get the truck in the garage!!! I used to drive a much smaller SUV. I find I use it a lot, making sure I'm in parking spots correctly, not hitting the retaining walls along my driveway...
I just wish the screen didn't have a greyed out area around the truck edges. Being able to see the truck wheels would be a real benefit.

The parking garage at work has tiny spots, with a single backup camera and towing mirrors, I'm able to back-in to spots without (too much) trouble. There are times I have realign myself, but I end up doing that backing in the Airstream too at times.

Agree, I use my mirrors to see the rears, but the greyed out area also hides the front tires and corners of the truck. I have a really tight turn to get in and out of my garage. Being able to see exactly how close I am to the short retaining walls would be helpful. Unfortunately the camera software hides the close in several inches.
There is a post on the F150 Forum from a guy who modified the camera mounts to show both front and rear tires. Not sure I want to make that mod.
