2017 F150 Trip Results
Ordered a 2017 F150 TV with following:
4x2 supercrew
6.5Ft bed
3.5L V6 ecoboost
Elec 10 SpeedAuto
7850lb GVWR package
Max Trailer Package
Manual telescoping trailer tow mirrors
Heavy Duty payload package
3.73 Electronic locking rear axle
36 gal extended fuel tank
Hitch, new factory installed PullRite
Trailer is 29ft Sovereign, loaded weight 6580, tongue weight 480
Trip from N Alabama to Moab Utah via I 70, to Ceder City Utah and return via I 40, total trip miles 5690, total towed miles 4,158.
Verdict: Outstanding, this truck outperformed old TV in so many ways, transmission senses downhill grade and downshifts to compensate. Engine had plenty of power (passed close to 11,000 ft at one point) and got 11-14 mpg towing (depending on terrain) and 18-24 mpg not towing. I did change oil after 4K miles into trip since turbos use same oil. I was skeptical and so was co-pilot but we both are very pleased with truck performance.
Previous TV 2000 F250 V10 with PullRite Hitch, pulled trailer well over 100,000 miles and would have replaced with same but V10 is no longer available and I don't like paying a lot extra for engine and then paying more for fuel.

Great post. We a looking for a brand new TV to replace our 100,000 mile 2002 GMC2500HD SLT Duramax that has been a trooper with lots of miles towing heavy horse trailers and now our AS Flying Cloud 25. Our average towing mileage incl mountains on our last long tow (west coast to Saskatchewan and back across the Rockies) was 17 mpg. My mechanic says my engine is just broken in ha has but we're looking at some longer duration exploration trips (several months of roaming so lots of towing less sitting parked) and a warranty would be nice.
Questions:
1. Did you have plenty of braking power?
2. Can you comment on the stability on the road towing in winds or with large trucks passing?
3. Do you have any concerns over durability of your engine/tranny package i.e 6 banger at higher revs vs. diesel chugging along?
Again, thanks for the interesting post.

I know your not asking me, but I had 2- 25foot AS's, I pulled with my 2012 F150 Ecoboost 4x4 and put on 125K miles. Loved the overall package, but you do have to watch braking down steep grades and use transmission to help slow and avoid heating up, from my experience. Also, going up steep long grades in hot weather (100+) it can heat up at highway speeds 60+mph, but does fine at 45mph. Overall, the only real complaint I had was my payload was only 1039lbs on my Platinum model...did not understand the importance of that when I purchased it new!
I now have an 2017 new F250 diesel and a 28'. I have put 30K miles on the combination in the first year...I love setting the cruise control at 65, engaging the engine braking system and just sit back while I go up, down, and around in the Rockies, at 1500rpm! Pain to drive around town when shopping, but other than that, great truck for pulling this size AS.
I would love to have the new F150 EB if I had a smaller 25' AS....maybe trade down again in a few years...right now, mama loves the 28' and the F250!

I have a 2017 F150 Ecoboost with 3.55 axle. Works great on my 28’. I haven’t been to the mountains and probably won’t until I’m fully retired. For now the 2017 works wonderfully. The Propride hitch helps a great deal with stability. Next TV will be F250 (probably diesel). But will buy used. Much cheaper up front cost.

Sure
A. One of the pleasant surprises was the 10 speed transmission and the way it automatically down shifted when going down hill, I didn't have to brake as hard and trailer brake controller engaged quickly when I did. Tow/Haul mode changes shift times and duration, much different from old TV.
B. Stability depends on many things, the truck footprint helped a lot but the most important factor (I think) was the hitch. We were lucky to get PullRite to install a new hitch at their factory. Did take several days but well worth it, have a PullRite on old TV so had a history with them. Never had any issue with trailer sway using these hitches.
C. Time will tell when it comes to durability, oil life concerns me, especially since turbos use engine oil to lube them. I change the oil every 4K miles and use a good synthetic oil (truck says 65% oil life remaining at 4K). Ford must have a lot of confidence in these engines since they put them in new, expensive, GT.
I do think it is very important to make sure truck is equipped to handle tow load. It took me a while to get proper details from Ford and to find dealer willing to order exact configuration. Most dealers said they had same truck on lot and didn't need to order one, they lied.
Happy to answer any other questions.

I loved the new 10speed F150 2017 I test drove. Over 5 years and 125K+ miles pulling the 25 AS's, my F150 was great except areas I mentioned earlier. I do think the difference in pulling a 25' vs a 28 AS is significant. I am not saying the F150 EB can not handle, but I can say with confidence the F250 6.7L D is much more a stable platform for pulling, handling, and braking. Also bigger payload. You can still pull with the F150...many do. Just saying...this combo I have works great
