I think this is true. I read somewhere that the 10 speed will have 3 overdrives, and will allow Ford to build heavy payload/HD towing configurations with lower ratio'ed rear ends. A positive for overall fuel economy.

The new F150s appear to be much more capable towing and hauling machines than those just a few years ago. In 2010, I quickly ruled out F150s due to payload capacity for my application. Now, they are worth a second look.
