And it's online... I found it later. It's not in the tow package because it's on all of them.

I finally got rid of my 2012 Suburban LT and good riddance! It had the 5.3 and was barely able to move it's substantial heft around town. That engine just wasn't torquey enough and even the 1500 Suburban is quite heavy. The 6 liter would have been a much better choice.

Without the trailer, I could only get about 18 on the highway in the flats. With the trailer, 9-12 mpg depending. But worse, the transmission was awful. You'd have to jamb the throttle to get it to downshift, even on inclines.

I'm back to towing with my Silverado 2500 Duramax. Truly effortless towing, a place for firewood and wet/dirty stuff in the bed, and 14-16 mpg towing, 19-20 unloaded. I don't need to mess with WD either. The downside is size. It's a big, noisey truck. At least it isn't smelly thanks to the DEF system.

Do you remember what gearing you had in your 2012 Suburban? I had a 2010 with 3.08 gearing and that thing was miserable trying to go up hills. The new 5.3 has the same power and torque as the old 6.0. The gearing is a little different, 3.42 as opposed to 3.73, I bet it drives much better than the old version.

It had the 3.43 - it came with the tow package. The new truck has a bit more torque than my 2012. Not sure if it would still be enough considering how heavy they are, or how poor the tranny.

Well I can tell you that the torque from the new one is the same as the old 3/4 (which I have) and that is perfectly adequate to tow our 25 foot Eddie Bauer... but it's geared a little lower... then again, the 3/4 has a curb weight of 6400+lbs.

I got a phone call today from Chevy dealer reguarding the 2015 Suburban 2500. I asked if they were in, he said no all 2500 were custom. Anyone know if that is for all dealers? I like idea the two rows of seats fold down, but I am curious to see price.

sbb they may have misunderstood the question. No 2500 series in the Suburban Yukon for 2015. Chevy site says no large engine, only the 5.3L. Need to go to the Silverado/Sierra trucks to get a 6.2L.

The 6.2 is also the power plant in the Denali and Escalade. Also, on GM family first web site I can't build a 2500 Suburban for the 2015 MY

Something to consider is waiting for the 2015 Expedition Max. Current ones have about the same space as a Suburban but they have independent rear suspension which handles and rides better. The 2015 will get many of the new F150's aluminum parts and the Echoboost engine. It should be a dramatic leap forward.

Unfortunately, the 2500 was discontinued in 2014 and GM hasn't announced any plans to create one for the new body style.

I took the 2015 Suburban LTZ for a spin yesterday and I was mightily impressed with it. It's quiet, refined and powerful. The magnetic ride suspension does a remarkable job of limiting body roll in the corners. The version I tried had the 3.08 rear as opposed to the 3.42 from the max towing package. I imagine the 3.42 will only drive better.

The biggest difference is how much quieter the interior is as compared to the outgoing model. This thing is going to be majorly comfortable for long drives.

I saw one on the road yesterday. It has different sheet metal than the Silverado. It's lines make it look like a big ole car.

Apparently they're 2 inches shorter, 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider; I imagine that combination makes them appear more car-like.

If their 2 inches shorter and 2 inches longer, they should be the same as previous gen?

Sorry, yeah, I mean the body is 2 inches longer from nose to tail and 2 inches shorter from roof to road.

Oh ok
What do you think PH? You looking at trading the 2500? Or just kicking the tires?

I'm torn. On one hand, the 2500 is supremely capable and tow all day up and down anything, on the other, it's exceedingly thirsty and rides somewhat roughly when driving solo.

We use the thing to tow and also to drive from Eugene over the mountain passes to go skiing so that's a fair amount of solo driving. Honestly, I wasn't seriously considering anything until I drove it the other day... the new one is that good.

Wow! They look great as well! By the way, thanks for the short review. We have an 08 Tahoe LTZ with only 25k miles on it so we are keeping it a little longer. If it was up to me though, I would get a new gen Tahoe or Yukon.
