I've told them to give me a call when they get an LTZ version with the 3.42 gearing. Also, I understand that the new OnStar LTE system will be added at a mid-model refresh so we will probably wait until then to decide.
We're in a similar situation with our current, low milage 2012. It's doesn't really make sense to replace it now but, man, the 2015 might just be that much better.

The other thing I've read was that GM will be putting a 8 speed auto transmission next year or 2016. May be worth the wait for that as well.

I read that, too. I'm thinking maybe I'll wait for 6 months and see if they announce more about that 8 speed. That would be a significant improvement.

I forgot to ask you about the outside rear view mirrors on the 15 Suburban you test drove. There is another thread here with comments made that the mirrors were too small, what was your impression regarding the size and view?

They're way too small for towing... but that was my impression from the previous generation's regular mirrors. I have the tow mirrors on my 2012 and, while they're great for towing, they make a lot of noise and are pretty annoying in non-towing driving. I contacted CIPA about a set of slip-on tow mirrors for the 2015 model and they tell me they're in the works.
I've done no research to see if the tow mirrors from the 2015 Silverado will fit the Suburban.

No not for towing. In general everyday driving.
I recently bought and have used the Melinco brand tow mirrors and they are great. They will fit just about any mirror out there.

I found them to be adequate in everyday driving when properly adjusted. I find that most folks have no clue how to adjust mirrors and these are not large enough to make up for poor adjustment.
Keep in mind that you can also get this thing with a host of features like lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring, both of which seemed to work well.

Hello,
I have a 1978 Argosy Minuet and a 1998 Yukon. I see that you also have a Yukon, but much newer. I was wondering if you hooked up an after market brake controller or if it came with your Yukon? Thanks. I do not have a brake controller, but will be looking to add one and would like to know about the process of such an endeavor. Thanks you!

I've actually done it both ways. My first Suburban didn't have an integrated controller and I was able to have one installed at a local hitch shop for around $200, IIRC. The newer Suburban has the built-in version. I think the built-in version works a little better but the add on one from Tekonsha worked just fine.
Good luck!

If you're asking me Mik0, our Tahoe, pretty much the same as the Yukon, I installed a Prodigy. I believe only 4 or so wires, no biggy. It works great. The 2008 models did not have the integrated brake control. I don't know when they started installing them from the factory.

First Hook Up
We took the 25FB out of winter storage today and hooked it up to the new '15 Yukon. The 20 mile tow to have the trailer prepped for the season was a breeze. We'll see how it goes on a long trip in a couple of weeks but so far it is a very nice ride.

I second the comment about how handsome that combo is! Please let us know how it operates on your trip! Also, I'm curious to know the technical details... it looks like a standard Yukon (as opposed to Denali), does it have the max tow package?

It is a fully loaded 4 wd SLT. The Denalis were not shipping yet when I purchased this one. It has the max trailering package with 3.42 rear end and integrated brake controlled. That package also adds the coolers. It has the sun and entertainment package which is ridiculous for someone my age, but what the heck if the tv's go out in the trailer we can always watch a movie in the back seat. It also has adaptive cruise control and a Chrome Exhaust Tip! (Said tip discolors as soon as it gets hot making it look just like any other exhaust tip but what's another $135.). The Denalis will have a different grill, bigger engine, and Bose center point sound instead of the standard Bose plus a much bigger price tag - someone said close to $15 k. Most noticeable about the '15 is how incredibly quiet it is. The short tow was very nice. The mirrors are small but it is wide enough that I don't feel the need to use my tow mirrors since you can't see around the back any way. The backup camera is super for hitching up. I hit it on he first try which is a first for me. Hope this info helps.

Yes, that's great info! Please let us know how towing goes. I'm curious to see if adaptive cruise control can be used while towing on long flat stretches of freeway.
I'll second your comment on the quietness. I've driven the new Tahoe twice and the Suburban once and I can tell you that it's amazingly quiet; comparable to high-end luxury sedans.

They may be quieter and built better, but the last generation sure looked better. The 80's squareness and sharp corners, painted-together side windows and creases for creases sake looks a bit dated...not to mention the overt squareness doesn't quite gel with the timeless roundness of an Airstream. They also look HUGE pulling an Airstream; they make a good sized Airstream look relatively small. And, some of these are stickering for almost $70k!!! For a Suburban!!! Unreal.

Thanks goat! I guess I should have asked for your approval. But, the most important part is the grand kids love it.
