It's certainly worth pushing this issue a bit further. Remember, these F-250s are made to tow loads twice as heavy as our Airstreams, if the brakes were this sensitive, Fords would be failing all over the place and they certainly would not be the #1 work truck brand in the US. Good luck and keep us posted!

Bob
The first repair to the brakes was covered under the warranty and to the credit of the dealership and Ford there was no hassle whatsoever in getting it done. I expect this second repair to the brakes to also be covered under the warranty with hopefully again no wrangling. What worries me is what transpires if this keep happening. This time I am going to press harder on what they think the problem is. I will try and keep you posted. Thanks for the concern

No problem with wheels you would experience a shimmy or vibration in the steering wheel and wouldn't effect brake wear. In our shop when we see pads that aren't evenly worn we suspect sticking or binding pads or caliper bushings that are froze up. Your truck is to new for that. I'd be optimistic that the last repair resolves the issue, even if your trailer brakes are the problem it doesn't explain the uneven wear.

2015 f-250 6.2 vs 6.7

Nothing to do with a wheel.your brakes were so hot that the pass were forced into angle not the caliper. Remember it's stated on the R.O that it got so hot it melted the rubber components on brakes system. That is hot!

We have a 2011 F250 Lariat 4x4. It was the first year of the 6.7 diesel. We've owned it 3 years and have driven it 35,000 miles, over half of the mileage towing our 27FB Safari Airstream. So far we are delighted with the truck. Last year we averaged 14 mpg towing on a 7000+ mile trip to Colorado and New Mexico. The only mechanical problem we've experienced is replacing the DEF tank heater under warranty.

Oil changes run $115 at the Ford dealer. I buy DEF in 2 1/2 gallon containers at Wal-Mart for about $11.00. As for the truck's mechanical brakes, and integrated trailer brake controller, I've been extremely pleased in a couple of panic stops towing with the trailer. Both truck and trailer came quickly to a stop with neither moving out of line. The power and torque is incredible. Towing on steep upgrades in the Rockies was effortless and the diesel engine brake allowed me to maintain a safe speed downhill without using the regular brakes in most instances.

We considered the 6.2 gas F250 and the Ecoboost F150. Yes the diesel engine added about $7000 to the acquisition cost, and we pay a premium price for fuel. However, we travel extremely comfortably and feel safe with the extra margin of engine power, braking capacity, payload capacity, and size. The Ford exclusive tailgate step is a great feature. We love the heated and air-conditioned seats.

There are a few things we don't like. The Ford Sync system is awful and the navigation system is not user friendly. The quality of the interior plastics could be improved. They scratch and gouge easily. The 2 1/2" to 2" sleeve Ford sells for the hitch receiver fits extremely loose, allowing considerable play in the weight distribution shank until I fixed it with the Hitch Rider hitch vise model HT-4. The rear view mirror mounted to the windshield is not large enough and lacks automatic dimming. The upper tray in the center console must be aligned perfectly or it falls. The OEM shocks are not good even though they are branded "Rancho". I'm following the advice of other Airforums and Ford truck forums owners and switching to Bilstein 5100's.

The biggest negative is the 26 gallon fuel tank. It is too small and there have been a couple of instances in isolated areas where we've gone below 50 miles to empty and been nervous about running out of fuel. The standard fuel tank should be at least 35 gallons and Ford should offer a 50 gallon option. I'm tempted to swap out the tank for the 50 gallon Titan replacement but the lowest price I've been quoted is $1700 (tank and labor) which will buy a lot of fuel. It isn't a project I want to tackle myself though I've watched the Youtube videos of garage mechanics doing it.

We considered the 6.2 gasoline F250 and the F150 with Ecoboost when making the purchase. If we were to do it again, we'd go with the diesel.

F250 Diesel

We just took delivery of our new F250 6.7 diesel, traded our F150 EcoBoost. We loved the F150, it did everything very good, but travel plans would include more weight and we were very close to rear axle gross. Our plan was to order a 2015 F150 with heavy duty payload pkg, but was told that option was presently not being set with a build date, and that the 2015's would probably not start being delivered before December. We went with the diesel for the obvious reasons, plus resale value returns your upfront cost for the diesel option. Our initial impressions of the new truck are very good, nice ride, very quiet, no diesel smoke or smell and very powerful, although only 500 miles on it, so will have to report back. Lariat crewcab, 6 1/2' bed, 3:55 locker rearend, loaded options.

Well I have a 2013 F250 diesel FX4 and love the way it pulls. I love every thing about it. Well almost I also have a 05 corvette and I like driving the ford better. I will say I've had my share of maint issues with the Ford. In the time I've had it 1.5 years or 20200 miles I've had the engine light come on 5 times and its always an Exhaust thermocouple issue. In fact the light is on now. I wanted to see if any other poor sole was having these same issues. Not sure what to do here. Checking on the lemon law.

Done that. Two different dealers they fix the issue but not the root cause and its still covered but what happen after Warranty runs out. Sent a two page letter to Ford with no reply.

Sit down with service manager and request that the ford district service manager get involved and look at the truck himself. This should have not gone on this long without factory intervention.

A 6.2 gas engine wouldn't have that problem.

Well it is not uncommon. I believe your truck has 4 of these sensors and a very complicated emissions mandated exhaust gas monitoring and regeneration system that deals with extremely high levels of heat.

Certain failures in this system will reduce your power until you pull off the road and let it cool. Not a good thing up in the moutains where the exhaust gas is particularly hot.

Some Powerstroke owners consider them a maintenance item but they should go much more than 20K miles. You may have just had a string of bad luck or something else could be causing premature sensor failure.

I do not think the sensors are covered under the 5y/60K powertrain warranty so the advice here to get to Ford factory adviser before your 3y/36m warranty is up is a good one.

Pappy has a point. The late model US diesels have extremely complicated exhaust gas monitoring and regeneration systems mandated by federal diesel emissions regulations. The sensor readings are used in many computer control processes including the DEF injection. Ford's requires no less than 4 of these sensors which are exposed to extreme heat.

The gas motor has a simple closed loop sensor for the fuel injector/emission system.

This thread has gotten out of control. I can't tell if we are talking about brakes or emission controls issues anymore. In fact, I can't even remember what the OP's issue was.

Sayonara!

Thanks and your correct there are 4 of these Sensors. And your correct in may of the year at 5am we headed out with the airstream behind is. We made it seven miles from home before truck lost power red lights flashed telling me to pull over. I pulled over and at 3 miles the engine shutdown. We were there for 2 hours waiting for a tow. Not a good day.

The sensors are not the problem they are suffering from premature failure due to soothing else going on within the system. What Of DEF fluid are you using? Was the Def tank full when the failure occurred?
A automobile truck has over 20,000 parts and things happen to all makes, models and engines .Gas,diesel and hybrids. The one thing I can say is for certain is anything that breaks or fails can be fixed.Sometimes you just have to go to a higher level technician who has the ability to reason.Hang in there it will happen.

Quiet, nice ride, beautiful truck, low emissions, plenty of power, great mileage.

I think too many people are living in the past. This new breed of modern diesels are amazing.

Ditto, 2012 Chevy 2500 Duramax. I buy DEF at SAMs, $10/ for 2 1/2 gal. Run Amsoil and provide that to the dealer for my oil change. Chevy dealer cost for the service is $29 with me supplying oil and filter.

Well Howard, We have the very same truck. I love it as well and understand something weird is going on here. I just need to have Ford see what Im seeing so they get to the Root Cause.
