Loading and unloading will be an experience from the truck bed ... it is not easy from the lower perch of the EB either ...

Some of them have heated tailgates ,so the wife's hands don't get cold while pushing on a cold winter day

[QUOTE=911Patriot;1584646]We just got this long bed truck to put my husband's Harley in the back while pulling the AS.

What rear end ratio did you get? Is 3.31 good enough for towing most Airstreams?

The 3.55 is supposed to be the "new" 3.73 due to the ratio of the 6 speed tranny. If you aren't going to be towing in a lot of mountains, the 3.31 should do fine. Probably get a little better mileage, especially solo.

6.7 Power Stroke V8 Diesel
My husband said it is a 3.55 and it will pull a house down the road & up a mountain. We pulled our AS previously w/o incident with our Ford F-150 EcoBoost.
Here is the ramp for loading/unloading the Harley in case anyone is interested Three-Piece Folding Aluminum EZ Rizer Motorcycle Loading Ramp System

Never drivan a Dodge diesel, but in the Ford/GM comparison, I prefer the GM 6.6 Duramax/Allison combo-

What advantages do you see vs the Ford 6.7? The GM 6.6 doesn't seem to have changed since 2011 while the Ford has made design changes to the 6.7 in 2015. Ford's 6.7 came out in 2011. Looking at the video the GM was a little noisier and trailed the other two up the hill but not by a lot.
Thanks

I've owned and driven a GMC 2500 with the Duramax, now owned and driven a Ram with the Cummins, and I've test driven a Ford F250 with the 6.7 Diesel engine.
If I were buying today I would buy a GM because it's smoother, quieter, and rides/drives better than the others.
I bought the Ram because I thought it was a really good deal (program vehicle), my GMC was getting a little long in the tooth, and I wanted to try a Cummins.
I don't like the styling of the Ford, don't like the interior, and really don't like the seats. I have a very bad back, and the Ford seats are just atrocious compared to either the Ram or the GM.
Back to the Ram vs GM....the GM 2500 is like driving a large Chevrolet Impala with lots more capabilities, and the Ram in comparison is like driving a John Deere with a nice cab on it.
These are my opinions, you are free to use them as you wish, and worth just what you paid for them.

I love this, it's funny, even though we went the half ton route, I come from owning mostly all GM's. And felt the same about the Ford's. And the wife and I commented how the Chevy felt like an Impala, and we didn't like that. Actually I thought the cabin felt car like, and not truck like. It felt smaller than the Ram and combined with a all the storage on the Ram, and the masculine styling I settled on the Ram.

A ram 1500 and a Ram 2500, especially in the 4X4 configuration, are two completely different animals. I too would have probably bought what you did because at that time, the 5.3L GM was all that was available, and a little "weak" IMHO.

Well I have always owned ford pickups, except when the 6 liter came out,I watched the hot shot boys and all their problems, I found this used dodge with 36000 miles and it was 18 mos old, got it cheap and it has been good, but when I get ready for another and have to pay full bore I beleive I'd go chevy duromax , nothing wrong with an oversized Impala.......

The fact is that any of the big 3 diesels will happily tow any Airstream you care to hook up to it. So it really comes down to brand preference, features, design, etc.
We've pretty much sworn off GM after having two GM cars develop transmission issues before hitting 80,000 miles, and both cars were well taken care of. Nothing I hate more than transmission problems. We didn't even consider GM for our truck because of it, and we didn't consider them when we were replacing the second car.
For Ford, we had the infamous 6.0L and, despite searching, I somehow missed all of the issues with that engine (actually, I misunderstood them to have been fixed in the later years of that engine). The thing was killing us; we were putting thousands into repairs each year, with more on the way (4 more injectors, for example). Not all of that was engine issues, but the coolant thing was an ongoing problem. I loved and hated that truck. The final straw was discovering transmission fluid on the ground - so either a tranny fluid leak or a power steering fluid leak. More $$$, and it would still be blowing out coolant under load.
We said we'd look at the new Fords, but we never did outside of the auto show. Despite the headaches, I still actually do like Ford; I pick on them because it's fun, not out of dislike (I still own a '99 Mercury Cougar, so believe me I have lots of material). I never pick on GM.
We really liked one feature the Ram had, the flat fold-out platform when the back seats are folded up, because it's great for our cat cages. The dealer cut us a great deal on a '14 Ram 2500 that we absolutely love. We intend to keep this truck for at least 15 years; I hope it pans out that way. We've gotten a check-engine light a couple times for an odd U-code; I've cleared it two or three times. If it comes back again I'm going to take it into the dealer.

In my area there seems to be a shortage of Chevy/GMC Duramax and the remaining examples are MSRP over $60k. Ford seems to have more inventory and I've found several examples of 2015 XLT 6.7 in the mid $40k ($10k off MSRP). Is GM selling fast or have they limited production compared to Ford?

Friend had a ramp like this on his F150, moved to an F250 and the center of the bike hit each time in and out and backing out slowly would sometimes bind up so he had to rock or someone had to bet up in the bed and push.

I second the KW thing.
Best trucks in the world hands down, even better than their Peterbilt brothers.
