there is no light to be shed on.... we all know the ecoboost dosnt have as great mpg as the ecodiesel. That is the reason the tank is bigger to overcome the issue.

36 gallon tank with 12-14mpg towing the argosy get me 430-500miles towing range. Now, like you, the kids wife and myself wont make it that long. I need to stop way before the tank is empty.

But I like it as living in Canada and doing a lot of small road in the mountain, fuelling chances are rare. it allow me some peace of mind that I wont run out!

I drive perhaps 10 000miles in the year (pleasure only) so the difference in fuel economy between both vehicle is very marginal. the ~250$ saving of the diesel isn't big enough to offset the premium price of the diesel engine. in my case, it would take 10+ year to be ahead with a ecodiesel.....(not counting the more expensive maintenance??? perhaps not??)

Both great vehicle, everyone case is unique.

Even so, I'd say his MPG is an outlier at the low end. My thirsty, thirsty old 5.4L with the 4-speed auto will reliably give me 16-17 mpg in the 72-75 mph range on I35. 2WD, 3.55 limited-slip diff, 18" tires, stock ride height. I average close to 13 in town with a heavy foot, which streamer_a is seeing on the highway. Now, hitch the Argosy on the back and I'm happy when I consistently average over 10 at 68ish...

Diesel owners like to do what other diesel owners do. Having a "range extension" tank when you can go over 500 miles on one tank is just a waste of money in my opinion. If your trip planning skills are so bad that you think you need an extra 50 gallons of diesel in the bed of your truck, you have problems.

Hi, yes you will wave at us because all gas stations sell gas, but not all gas stations sell Diesel.

10-4, not to mention carrying all that extra weight and reducing payload significantly. I sorta get it when traveling the AlCan or other remote areas, but still.....

This is just an exercise in hypotheticals anyway.

We now have these little pocket computer phone things that have these "APP" sort of things that tell you where to find gasoline and diesel. It even tells you things like the price of the fuels they sell, the operating hours and other pertinent information. Shoot, it will even give you turn by turn directions to whatever station you choose!

I prefer "discussing", rather than arguing. Although my "discussion and argumentation" class in high school had a clinical and appropriate definition of argumentation, and associated "rules" for argument, but we, mostly, don't adhere to that premise!

I have yet to see a post by an Dodge Eco-diesel pulling a 30' Airstream.
It simply doesn't have the towing capacity nor the payload of the F-150 Ecoboost so we can't even compare the two. It will handle a 25' Airstream or shorter. As to arguing about mileage I don't understand that at all. It takes x amount of fuel to move x amount of weight at a certain speed. Than you have the headwind variables or tailwind etc. There isn't a great deal of difference except the cost of initial investment, not to mention the intricacies and cost of maintenance over time.. Which has kept me away from diesels.
Again as it has been repeated often we all like to justify our decisions and it seems we all enjoy what we own. So, happy Airstreaming yaall .

I cry "foul"! They tested two "premium" engines against the standard Chevy engine in those comparable trim levels. This test should've been done with the 6.2L.

They should have added the $2,500 6.2L in the Chevy.

And notice, the $2495 upcharge for the 6.2, puts it right in between the two others in price, and actually it may be less in 2016, since the $2495 upcharge in 2015, included 6.2L AND 8 speed. 8 speed is now included with 5.3, so no trans upcharge between the engines in 2016.

They also used a High Country. It would deserve some scrutiny as to how all three are packaged.

But the extra 65hp and 77lb/ft of the 6.2 would change things a lot.

Hi, I cry foul too; They said the Ford F-150 had a "6,000 lb concrete block in the bed." And we all know that's way over the payload of a Platinum model. No wonder the Dodge won.
