Not when they're planning on deep-sixing the burb in a couple of years. I think they plan on 2011 or 2012 being the last year.

way more torque
That new duramax has half again my V-8 (8.1L/496ci) torque, 490 lb·ft compared to 765 lb·ft -- WOW! I could go up hills and everything.
Almost makes me want a diesel. We'll just have to wait and see what they're selling in another four or five years, though. It may be really different again.
Meanwhile, drool on. Pretty cool stuff.

11% more fuel efficiency.... Wishful thinking maybe, but I was really hoping for a bit more. Looks like I will continue my search for the 2006 Duramax. Thanks for sharing this info; great looking truck.

I have an 06 and it has plenty of power. I can imagine needing another 40hp and 100ft/lb of torque. I would be more than willing to give up some of the power that I have to get better fuel mileage. I can get 20-21 on the hwy if I keep it under 65 not pulling. It would not mind getting upper 20's with less power. I dont need 650 lb of torque. I will admit, it is nice to have when I need to stomp on it.

A new 36-gallon fuel tank extends the driving range of the 2011Silverado HD. It’s standard on long and short box versions. GM promises up to a country-crossing 680-mile range, or about 18.8 mpg.
"Heavy duty trucks aren't required to be tested for fuel economy by the EPA," Mikulec said. "But [for the single rear-wheel] truck, we've measured around 15 mpg in the city and about 24.5 mpg on the highway. We have the numbers to substantiate it, but we don't have to put it on the [window] label. There are some limited cases where at 55 mph at a steady state going around a track, we can get over 30 mpg."

I still like our 06...and it will run on donkey piss...not like the new ones. But they are getting better all the time.

And if the fuel tank was the weak link, one could just change it. Our 2006 arrived with a paltry 26 gallon gas tank. Two years later we dropped that tank and replaced it with a 45 gallon tank from Transfer Flow Sales.
Gave us a serious increase in cruising range, really nice for the boonies of Canada, U.S. southwest, or just waiting for better prices.

OK, here is a very fundamental question. I've looking at the 2011 Ford diesel for my next truck, but have discovered a significant issue with some of the new diesels. It's DEF (diesel emissions fluid) which will add to the cost of mileage. The new Ford an Chevy will require it and eventually, all light duty diesels will require def. It will be filled at the service intervals and so far as I can tell runs about $3/gal. I think I read the Ford will have an 8 gal tank, but not positive. Some truck stops like Pilot will have dispensers. The Chevy will have 5.5 gal def tank with a filler cap right next to the fuel filler cap. ( First Look: 2011 Duramax Diesel V-8 Engine - PickupTrucks.com News) Also, I think the Dodge won't require def until 2012 from info I got at a dealer because they use a different system. hhendrix, I can't remember the estimated miles per tank of DEF, but it's real high. The Ford will give you a warning when your down to 1000 miles to go on the DEF tank. I'm sure the GM will be similar. This article quotes 2.75/per gallon, I'm sure it will drop a lot in the next few years. This should be insignificant compared to the price of an oil change.

ALL trucks have to go with this formula this year. The Dodge guy is misinformed. You'd do yourself good to look at the new Ford F250 with its new diesel. I just drove it at a special truck customer program against all the competition. No one else compared in power...torque or mileage.

I just picked up a 2006 Silverado Duramax CCSB to replace my '07 F150 4.7 V8 tv. It has the LBZ motor rated at 360hp/650 ftlbs torque. I'm with erock53, it has all the power I'll ever need. I would have been happy with a 2005/early 2006 with the LLY motor (310hp/605ftlbs) but came across this one and couldn't pass it up. Wait until the diesel hot rodders put a program tune on one of the new motors! The numbers will be outrageous.

Looks like the Big 3, HP and TQ numbers race is still on  ........
even though the average Airstream owner is probably looking for a 3.0L with adequate power with fuel efficiency of 20+ MPG towing and 30+ MPG solo.

Where did you guys hear the Suburban was going to go by the wayside? Here in Texas they certainly do not have any problem selling Suburbans, and many of the municipalities use the 3/4 ton version. I am on my fourth Suburban and cant imagine being with out it! I only use my Big Block 8.1 to tow, so sometimes it sits for a few weeks at a time, but when I get in it....Wow this thing is a tow monster!!
