2010 Tundra-WD Hitch Problem-Ball Height
Fellow Tundra Owners (or anybody else),
I am trying to rig up my new Tundra to pull a 2004 19' Bambi. Today I picked up my WD hitch (Husky WD with 500-800 lb spring bars). Here's the rub..........with the hitch "head" bolted up in the lowest possible position in the drop shank, the top of the hitch ball is at 21 inches. The top of the hitch ball should be at around 18". I'm 3 inches too high.
So how did everyone else get the hitch ball down low enough to hook up level (or down to around 18")? Is a really long drop shank the ticket? What am I missing here?
By the way, this is my second AS. The first was a 31' 1977 model.
thanks

Hi, I think you answered your own question; A longer drop shank.

The hitch came with a 10 inch drop shank....would a 12 inch drop shank get me close enough? That would leave the ball around 1 inch high. Could I work around the ball being 1 inch high?
thanks

You can try the 12" drop and see how that works, but you want both to be as level as possible. If it's still too high at 12" you'll need a lower drop shank.

Hey Pronghorn!
We have a 2000 Tundra and I'm pretty sure I needed 13" of drop to get to 17 3/4 (which was the perfect ht for our 09 19' Bambi). The only bar I could find was 14" and I had to have an inch sawed off otherwise it would drag on the curb as we drove away from our house. I can tell you THAT was a sound I never want to hear again!!!
Anyway, I can measure it when I get home tonight after work if you like.

Freeheel,
That would be great. I just priced a longer drop shank....$131! Oh well, can't be helped. I just need to get the correct shank the first time.
thanks again,
pronghorn

Nope, I lied, I measured it at 10". I'm that if the 12" doesn't work you can take it back to the shop and exchange it for a longer one. Good luck!

Different truck - same problem. Where sis you get the longer shank? What was its tow weight rating?
