We've been looking at TV's to accommodate the potential purchase of a 27FB Classic. I hear great towing stories using both of these TV's but enough to make this even more confussing.
The Sequoia Platinum has 9000lb capacity and the Suburban has 9300lb capacity, I think. . .
The only upside to the Sequoia is the every day use might be easier due to it being a little shorter.

I'm biased..... many miles towing with Burbs, none with Toyoda's.

Have been very happy over the last 16yrs towing Stream's with Burb's.

Plenty of grunt, plenty of room and payload,(3/4), and sooper over the road traveler. Might consider used in this market. Our 06 was purchased w/14k on the clock, couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

We pull Lucy (25FB/7400#) with two 2500 Suburbans, an '04 and an '05. We have pulled Lucy over 50,000 miles with these TV's We have found them to be more than capable in all terrain situations. We did pull Lucy with our '04 Tahoe on several occasions, and found it a lesser tow vehicle.

Remember that 2500 Suburbans come with oil and transmission coolers. They also come with load range E truck tires. The frame and brake systems are also beefier on 3/4 ton SUV's. Half ton SUV's usually do not come with any of these features.

A quick look at the latest issue of Consumer Reports shows a new Seq is predicted to have an above average reliability forecast.

The new Burb much worse than average.

This may or may not be a determining factor for you.

My 2004 Suburban 2500 LT has been virtually flawless and has performed beyond my expectations in every area of use. As for towing, with the 130" wheelbase, 3/4 ton upgrades, etc, it's a hard act to follow. In addition, it's drive by wire accelerator has not put the pedal to the metal on it's own, unlike many Toyota models which do so to this very day, some even post fix.

My friend has a Sequoia and he tows with it. I got some seat time trying it out and he got some with mine. Needless to say, when his lease is up, he's dumping the Sequoia for a Burb. There is a reason this truck has been around for almost 40 years. Ford tried to duplicate it or surpass it with the Excursion, which was also a good truck....of the two, only the Burb has survived. It's easy to understand why, ask anyone who's actually owned a Burb...some have owned several Burbs. They are exceptional IMHO.

As for towing a 27' RV. Burb, hands down, and still have power to pull the Sequoia in addition to the 27 footer.

Just a note on Suburban history. Suburbans have been around for far more than 40 years. There has been a Chevrolet Suburban produced every year since 1935, including 1942-1945. When the 2011 Suburban comes out later this year, it will be the 77th consecutive model year for the Chevrolet Suburban. Unlike some other model names, the 2011 Suburban is the same type vehicle as the 1935 was.

The Chevrolet Suburban is the longest running uninterrupted model name in the entire automotive industry.

I have an '05 'Burban with 67,000 miles and climbing. It is very reliable and comfortable.. With over 75 years of experience building these, I cannot imagine anyone catching up.

I humbly and gladly stand corrected. 77 years (this coming model year) is an even greater tribute to the truck and it's staunch and at times cult like following.

It's a great truck all around! The interiors of the new ones share many aspects of their Cadillac sibling in terms of luxury and creature comforts.

We have owned 2 Suburbans...as many others have stated; hard to find a better towing, Family hauling, practical, and safe vehicle for pulling a 27'er. Comparing a 2500 Suby to the yota is not really apples2apples...

I think both would work great, when I was a kid my parents has a 96 burd 2500 with a 454, pulled a 27ft wilderness with it and it never seem to struggle. Now I have a 08 tundra 5.7, now it the sequoia is like the tundra when it comes to the towing package you get a transmission cooler and temp guage, power steering cooler, and oil cooler. Now if you have delt with the back and fill sometimes associated with towing and have boiled your PS fluid you know how important it can be to have a cooler there. And with the factory tranny temp guage its something you wont have to add later, and IMHO a transmission temp guage is something every TV should have.

Either way they would both make great TV's

With looking more into it, the burb will allow roughly 700 pounds more payload which would help with TW and gear.

Ahh that is a no brainer! That burb will pull both the trailer and the toy. I still can not believe that someone would pull an American icon with one of those. That is like John Wayne in a pink tutu!

I have owned a 2000 Suburban 1500 and started towing our 25 ft. Argosy with it with no problem what so ever. A 2500 Suburban would be even better. I've never had a single problem with any GM product. Unitl I purchaed a Dodge diesel several years ago I drove 1500 series Chevy trucks. Never a problem with any of them. I can say them same thing about my Dodge. Very reliable vehicles. In my opinion, the Suburban is one of the finest all around vehicles. It has the size and comfort.

The Toyota can be bought with a 10.000 LB tow capacity and a 5.7L V-8 that will out perform the Chevy in every way except seating capacity, that includes resale value. And lets face it, the Chevy Suburban isn't a looker !

Can't argue with the track record of the Burb, I just think it's ugly. And those of you who belittle Toyota because of it's recent problems, let's not forget that GM very nearly went out of business last year, bailed out with taxpayer money, and could still be in big trouble down the road.

Bottom line here is the Toyota is a better truck on paper and IMO much better looking as well.
