Payload capacity is very confusing. Figure you own payload by weighing your truck at a cat scale and then subtracting the weight from the GVWR for the truck.

I realize that the wheels and tires may be the determining factor in the truck GVWR. If this is the case then just change the wheels/tires to increase the GVWR. This won't change the door frame sticker, but it will be accurate.

Confusing and to the point of frustrating Dan, especially in this case. His truck by the brochure and towing guide on payload should be higher. That is why I said there must be something different about that specific truck for them to lower the payload rating. A fancy wheel option could do it BUT who knows. I would suggest looking at the original Marone sticker or looking up the truck online for the packages it came with and speaking with a Ford person who might help him get the payload to at least what the brochure says.
