2008 Highlander w/Tow Pkg 4WD 3.5L 270hp V6

We are torn between the 16ft & 19ft Bambi.. The tow/pkg allows for 5000# towing capacity. Car load capacity 1,200# (passenger & cargo).. using 10% of 5000#, the Tonque load is 500#.. If understand Toyota Manual correctly the Tounge Weight is factor in the car's GVWR of 6000# (making the above car load approx 700#)..

As I talk to various AS dealers I get conflicting information.. Basically hearing that the tow rating is more about Stopping & Steering and that 2008 Highlander can easily handle the 19ft Safari w/GVWRi of 4500# & Hitch of 480

With the 16ft coming in at 3500# & Hitch of 430..

The argument is you don't need more engine to keep a vehicle moving once it's rolling..

Since we never tow'd before and we really want to do what's right.. Any other thoughts would be great as we are close to making a decision.. We like the more room of the 19ft & the cost isn't too different, we just don't want to overextend the vehicle and be "white knuckling it" all the time.. a little is ok.. plus we don't want to destroy the Highlander..

thanks

hi zimode and welcome to the forums...

here are a few threads on this topic...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f368...der-26610.html

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f463...mbi-30715.html

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f238...rid-28016.html

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f463...ccd-39302.html

so read those as a primer.

then use the 'advanced search tool, and...

-enter the term in question (search entire posts)...
-limit search to the tow vehicles forum (search in forums)...
-(show results as post) click that button...

then hit search now

this will yield even more posts on the tv in question....

OR pm ljmiii, he's been hot on hihy towing here for awhile and worked hard to make it proper.

cheers
